The ramps have been up for a while now, finally got around to digging up a few. Dug a few earlier in the week and went back out today after work an brought home a few more. Nothing better than a ramp sandwich, bread, butter, salt and some ramps. I have found that the greens make a great salad. Boiled potatoes tonight for supper, sour cream, butter and some ramps chopped up on top along with some crockpot steak and gravy. I think I am going to attempt to pickle some of these I dug tonight. Wish they were around longer.

I’m glad I didn’t have to ask what a ramp is. Or wasn’t the first at least...

Without the picture I would't have had a clue....never heard of a vegetable
called a ramp.

I'm jealous as heck. It's just now the beginning of ramp season here & I have only had a few small ones so far.

To us hillbillies,, ramp season is to be celebrated!

Cold beer, ramps,, & a few pickled eggs,, and you can whip any virus, or whatever else ails ya!

Yep been eating a few myself this past week, wife made a big pot of potato soup with fat back & ramps :) . Did you find any black sponge yet? they should being popping up this week with a little sun.
Good hunting

Here in Pennsylvania we don't eat weeds! :)

You don't say! My home state is Pennsylvania and that is where I was first introduced to ramps. Every spring in N.E.Pa we would dig several bunches and that went on for a few weeks. My man, you just don't know what good eatin' is. Check out some of the ramp festivals in W.Va., N.C. & Tenn. and some of the youtube recipes.

Terry, I haven't found any mushrooms yet, I don't spend a lot of time looking for them either. Too busy digging ramps. I will get a few chanterelles when they pop up later in the summer. They are much easier to find.I did pickle a few tonight, I hope these turn out OK. Have been putting ramps on just about everything I eat.

I was schooled and fed ,about ramps and fiddleheads on a New Brunswick spring bear hunt.

Never heard of Ramps never mind eating them, but I have had my share of fiddle heads!
few more week we'll be after them! ps

Kevin,
I would expect that coming from a Texan who doesn't know the difference between "Grilling and BBQ"

Kurt,
If those pickled ramps turn out I would say they would be good trade goods at Glenmont come fall,, :D

Terry,
If they are edible, you remind me and if I have any left I will bring you a jar.
I have not tried the fiddle heads
but I have been on the lookout for some. Think I may have found a few while digging ramps. Will have to give them another look.

Never heard of ramps, but we do have what we've always called wild onions. They look about like the pictures. They're good cooked in a pot of most any vegetables, snap beans or peas especially . now I'm getting hungry. 'bout time for our first mess for the summer!
