Tom
Your Dads 3563 Yield Check was winning check over .25 acre this year.
73.33 bushels

Got the email today that Tom and I won the seed house competition for soybean yield. The seed business sells over a fairly wide area of north central MO so literally hundreds of competitors. Very impressive considering the drought conditions we grew under and the fact that we did this with 1980's era equipment and 25 year old technology(except for the seed). The runner-up was a guy who regularly places high in (or wins) the state yield competition
After spending the last 5 days fighting the cold to care for the critters, it's about time I had an "Atta-Boy".

Thanks to all. Location: north central MO basically centered east/west and 25 miles from the Iowa line.
As Tom and I were discussing this last night, we began to guesstimate what "might have been" had we not been in a drought, had not suffered some noticeable deer damage in some areas of the fields, and had not had to deal with the alarming amount of harvest loss. In the end, it is what it is. Our equipment purchases and maintenance, cost of operation, and other expenses were low. Although I probably didn't get much return for my labor, it was well worth what I did to see Tom doing what he's wanted to do for a long time.
At the family Christmas get together, Tom received a framed wall hanging with a statement about how important farming was/is. Somewhat of an emotional moment as I commented he was the 4th generation to farm on this particular piece of land. If memory serves, my Grandfather bought part of this place in 1933.
