Can you think of anything else?

I clicked on a news article from the Detroit Free Press. Yup, you guessed it...it said, unless you are a subscriber, you are not allowed to read this article...Free my ASSets!
The word free has lost all meaning. Something is free IF and I mean only If, you buy something else. So, it;s not so free, right?

Yeah, even FOXNews.com has done the same thing. Register under the guise of agreement with their “Terms and Conditions” and obviously make it even easier for them ( and others? ) to track what you click on.

I can think of at least three possible interpretations of "Detroit Free Press." One is a publication that contains absolutely nothing from or about Detroit in it. ;)

Paid websites have been around a long time. My wife and I did subscribe to the Apple News Plus. It included a lot of content and I would bet even the article you are talking about.

But then they raised the price from $10 a month to $15. (Per family).)

But that’s just too much. So we canceled.

Other than subscribing to the Epoch Times, I refuse to pay for news. The ads are there for that. On the bright side, since so many have a paywall now, that leaves me more time for reloading!

One of the big "Free" things that ticks me off each year are Walgreens and CVS advertising "Free" flu shots. If they're "FREE", why would they want your Medicard or insurance cards. I'd like to see them taken to court for deceptive advertising.

I like the emails I get all the time offering me this free item... I just have to pay for the shipping... I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday....
When I was in junior high school, taking a gardening class and had teeth, I loved eating rutabagas, raw. They had a sweet center!

They are "free", to you. The Federal govenment is paying for the shots, and yes, your tax dollars are involved. But think about it, if you don't get the "free" shot you are still contributing to everyone else who gets the shot for free. So it seems foolish not to at least get the shot for yourself (assuming that you want the shot in the first place). The same thing holds for the "free" Covid test kits that you can order online.

The increased number of the news sites who want your info is becoming ridiculous. Besides Detroit and Fox it also includes Bloomberg, NYT, and many many others. What they do is use your email to send further ads even when you don't want them. I get increasingly annoyed, especially if it's from somewhere like Fox, which supposedly has personal freedom as one of its principals (and a WHOLE BUNCH of ads on its website).
