Yesterday morning I stopped by my favorite BBQ place to get the meat for my cowboy beans. While there I met a man who was an Air Force/ Air National Guard colonel, retired. I commented that I had a friend at mychurch who was retired from the Tennessee Air National Guard, as a major general. As we talked, he told me this story:
He was the pilot, with a co-pilot and an instructor pilot, flying a C-97 out of some town in France, he didn't remember which town. As they were taking off, they lost an engine, and the instructor pilot immediately took over the co-pilot's seat and took control of the plane. They got airborne, then climbed up enough to circle and bring the plane back down safely.
The instructor pilot was my friend from church.
The man I met was also a former member of the Memphis Police Department, head of the vice squad, and former sheriff of Shelby County.
