Recently renewed my carry permit. Fortunately, my permit isn't issued in Los Angeles County, so their aren't as many hoops to jump through. Not much more than fill out a form and give them a few dollars. All well and good.

Now before I retired I worked at a number of military bases, Camp Pendleton, Fort Irwin, Vandenberg, Los Angeles Space Force and the NASA site at Goldstone. For the last they did a fairly extensive background check. I never revealed to those folks that I had a permit. But today, I received an email from Vandenberg reminding me register my carry permit with them. Seems NASA knows about my permit. And I suppose that the NASA folks at Vandenberg wanted me to register.

Anyone who thinks the feds aren't watching every official document you have from birth to death needs to do a little reality check.

"Space Force". is that permit for a phaser?

yep, it sounds like they got your ticket on file.

A couple of years ago I requested my FBI file and they sent it to me... I probably should get an updated one.
but then I suspect there are other federal agencies that we don't know about that have the real information.

You can do that? Other than background checks I shouldn't have one, but it's be fun to find out. How's it done?

I guess I'd be shocked if one Federal background check wasn't aware of another Federal background check. Kind of stupid if it didn't work that way.
It's very possible, it is the government. Heck, I needed separate checks for Pendleton, Vandenberg, Ft Irwin, NASA Goldstone, FDA Irvine Ca, and the US Bureau of Prisons, etc. And the Goldstone site is on Ft Irwin. Government efficiency at it's best.

By the way, the only one that had their act together was Camp Pendleton. Not initially, as they had contracted it out. But after some serious lapses, the Marines took it over and did it right.

the FBI file was in regards to when they tracked me down and interviewed me to see if I was the Una-bomber.. the interesting thing is no where in the file, now it did have redacted parts... did it mention that I had been arrested and convicted of manufacturing marijuana in 1978... it does have down at the bottom of several pages "armed and dangerous". which was kind of strange at the time because I was about as close to a hippy dippy peacenik as a boy raised in the south could be.. not sure I even had a gun... actually I do think I had one of my father's 38's. that was probably just something put in not about me but for who they were actually looking for.
