In our Sunday School class this morning, one of our members made this comment:

"Raise your children and you'll spoil your grandchildren.

Spoil your children, and you'll raise your grandchildren."

Something to think about. We see plenty evidence of the truth in that.

As noted,, we see this more than we should.

As a grandparent,, I try to not spoil my granddaughter BECAUSE of this. She has had me say or do something,, and look at her Dad & say; "I see where you got it!" And we never undermine her parents or try & make up for any punishments they have doled out. Children need training, love & understanding from BOTH the parents & grandparents. Firm training is necessary to prepare them for life. Love is for them to know they are valued. Understanding is for accepting them as a person.

I won't dispute numbers with you, both are not a good way to raise kids, but I can guarantee you one thing. I worked for nearly 30 years in one of the richest per capita cities in the US and I saw so many of these spoiled brat teenagers and 20 somethings that were given everything without having to work for it that in many cases money was actually a detriment to the family structure instead of an advantage.

I plan on spoiling my grandchildren (grandchild at the moment) with love and attention. I would never think of undermining her parents. I can only hope she turns out like her parents.
