Interaction with neighbor yesterday

Yesterday afternoon I was going to get in my truck parked on the street in front of my house.

When you unlock the doors, the mirrors swing out. Pretty common. I did this and got my dog into the back seat on the passenger side.

Across the street was a delivery van. Then a F-150 drives up between my truck and the van. He hit my mirror. Never met the guy before.

He stops and I’m not very happy. I ask him if he knows what these mirrors cost.

He doesn’t apologize but says I’m over reacting and being “a pill” and “woke up on the wrong side of the bed.”

So his truck is close to mine when he stopped. But says let’s go look at your mirror.

I’m standing between the two trucks and tell him not to “squish me.” He gets sarcastic and say no he so t squish me.

I’m looking at my mirror, he backs his truck up and hits me. Actually runs into me standing there.

Now I’m really upset. It wasn’t hard, but I can actually still feel my elbow where the truck hit me. He was not driving fast obviously.

So he then drove forward and parks and gets out.

My mirror is fine, so I tell him to get out of my face.

He then called me an “A Hole” and drove off.

Unbelievable but true. I actually didn’t cuss at him at all. But I should have. He was some old guy. I’ve never seen him or his truck in the neighborhood before.

I did get a picture of his license plates.

Our neighborhood is full of delivery vans and construction vehicles every day. Driving without hitting my mirrors is more like a sporting event than anything. And yes it’s possible, just not for this guy I guess.

Mirrors seem to be a target. I was on a rather narrow two-way street a couple weeks ago. A car was approaching me so I pulled as far to the right as possible. The lady driving the approaching car wacked my driver side mirror with hers and folded it. I stopped but said nothing, just rolled down my window and reset it. She looked at me as though it was my fault. Sometimes the best thing to say is nothing.

When the guy hit me with his vehicle,, I would have made a big dent into it. With my fist. If he called the police,, I'd claim self defense,, and that it was HIM attacking me.

Wow, we are still dealing with whose dick is bigger. Man, I thought we got over that years ago. Sorry you had to deal with that crap.
Someone in the future will likely show Mr hit and run, the mirror molester dick head, the other end of his, if he happens up on the right person.

Sometimes it just takes one person to correct some people's attitude.
Sometimes you have to be that person. Penis size has nothing to do with it.
Like the school yard bully, once you stand up and punch them in the nose, I prefer literally rather than figuratively, they give you a wide berth.

Can't quite figure out the problem with people hitting mirrors or the need for the car makers to make them so they fold in. Why not just slow down and look carefully when it is a close fit, that's what I do?

Sorry you had to deal with an A-hole Kevin... some people... my solution when ever there is a question and issue like that is to just apologize to the person that feels you were wrong....

This is why I am counting down the days until I retire and move to a more rural area where I control who I interact with and when. I suspect I’ll need to deal with the general public as much as my wife wants me to and not a bit more.

Living in ‘the country’ is better. But comes with its own set of issues. Trespassers being at the top of the list. I live almost 3 miles behind my gate. Property line starts at the gate and the 2 houses are in the middle of the property. So 2.5-3 miles in all directions. Posted signs all around. I get on the average of 1 trespasser a week. To make it worse all the farms around me are selling out and apartments are being built. This influx of ‘temporary residents’ don’t seem to care about the area they live in. Increased trash and people walking on the railroad tracks, people leaving the marked hiking trails and ‘exploring’ or ‘sightseeing’ on private land. Occasionally leaving the gate open for a visitor even though it’s posted; people driving up the road to ‘have a look around’. Just no respect for people’s privacy and property.

When he backed up and hit me with his truck, I wish I would have fallen down. Of course then he probably wouldn't have seen me and kept going right over me!

I agree, if he had been driving slower, he wouldn't have hit my mirror. I do this every day around the neighborhood. The house down the street has been working on being remodeled for a very long time, almost a year. They are doing the fence right now. Those construction workers park their trucks and vans everywhere. It's truly a "thread the needle" type of driving. But not impossible.

I don't think it was a hit and run, he did park and get out so we could both look at the mirror on my truck.

You Sir, are a master of self control, and rational behavior.
My Grandfather tried his best to instill those traits into me.
He had his hands full.
And from what I gather, his fuse was shorter in his younger days.
But I could not have asked for,or found,a better example of what it took to become a man.
I never heard a curse word come out of his mouth.
I'm sure he would have handled the situation exactly as calm as you did up until the time he backed into you, personally. Not sure how he would have handled that in his 50s.
A lot would have depended on if I were watching
I'm afraid I know what I would have done.
And I don't know yoga.

I was visiting my daughter out in Long Island. We were driving on a 2 lane road through a small town. Many cars/trucks parked along side the road in front of shop and stores. We were in the opposite lane as a firetruck was coming at us. No lights or sirens, but we moved over a little since the truck was quite large. Saw the truck hit and peel at least 3 mirrors off parked vehicles and kept going. Mirror parts scattered at least half a block. Truck didn't stop so we didn't stop.
Guess that's how they do things in New York.

Glad you kept your cool. Not sure I could have.
