We had a great time today at our West End Gun Club informal Mosin-Nagant fun match. I'll let the photos do the talking...

We do this approximately monthly...it's always followed by a great lunch at our local Mexican restaurant. Grand times.

Hi,

I had the pleasure of an invitation from Joe to join the group yesterday. We had a lot of fun, and there ARE some shooters in the bunch. Myself? Well, I've gotta be satisfied with simply being the second best looking in the group, after Joe's daughter... or maybe that's second worst looking, in front of the zombie? I get confused: being left handed and dyslexic isn't all it's cracked up to be, ya know?

Anyway, Joe has an affection for these old rifles that's infectious! One of the group's dubbed him "The World's No. 1 Mosin Salesman." ;) Some time ago, he posted a picture of the 1940 Tula he'd just finished, and as good as the pictures were, they don't do justice to that rifle in person. Odds are it didn't look that pretty when it left the factory almost 75 years ago! Actually, there were several really nice ones in the racks and on the benches. One of those in the pictures is a 1928, another a 1930 if memory serves. I think I may have been bitten by the bug...

It was a beautiful day, with great company and good food! What else could one ask for?

Thanks, Joe!

Thanks, Rick. That match and the lunch that followed was a lot of fun and I'm glad we got to meet. Look forward to seeing you at the next one.

You know, if I had nothing but Rugers and Mosins I'd be a happy camper. Ignored the Mosin thing for a lot of years until a student of mine mentioned that he and his father bought one and were having a lot of fun with it. They are amazing and collectable firearms. It will be interesting to see what happens to their price and availability in the next few years.

I thought your M44 was pretty cool. If I cross paths with one for sale I might take that plunge. For now I am focused on learning more (as much as I can, actually) about the 91/30.

Two of the guys at the match yesterday had former sniper rifles (including my friend Paul, in the last photo, and Tyler, the guy in the blue baseball hat). Those sniper rifles are really cool, too. My experience with the sniper Mosins is that they group a lot tighter than the others, but they are all accurate (the sniper rifles exceptionally so). I shot Tyler's sniper rifle and at 50 yards it will cloverleaf three shots.

Thanks for your kind words and for shooting with us yesterday. Like they say, Держите порох сухим.

Those first two pictures are great. Nice to see happy, smiling humans. So let me see here. Which one is Rick? Being you are an accountant and only one guy at the shoot had a pen in his shirt pocket I am guessing you are the handsome bearded gentleman in pictures 5 and 6 from the top. I need to get out shooting this weekend.
