Just curious to see if anybody has info on a 77/17 I found. Traded for it in a pawn shop and it is a stainless with a green laminate stock and the serial number indicates it was manufactured around 2004. I have looked in the old catalogs and have not seen one like this but figure it might be a distributor special. It shoots good at 25 yds but have not been able to shoot at longer distances yet. Just wanted to know if anybody on here might have any info.

The RENE guide lists some with black on black & a light brown on brown laminated stocks. The laminated stocked ones seem to have a Varmint barrel too. I didn't see any with the green stock. It could be a variation unknown, or it could be someone swapped out the stock. If it's not a Varmint model, I'd say it's more likely a stock swap version.
UNLESS,,,,,,,,,,, Ruger put it out after 2010 as that's as far as the RENE guide goes.

Yep, the stock swap crossed my mind. After I put it on layaway and before I picked it up I mentioned it to a friend of mine. He said a buddy of his swapped it for an AR15. I need to see if he knows a little more of the history behind it. The owner of the pawn shop says he put a Timney trigger in it and it is a good trigger.

Just an update. I was looking through a stack of magazines trying to find info on a shotgun. It turns out they had this rifle with the green laminate stock and stainless the first year the 77/17 was introduced and after that they switched to gray black laminate and matte target stainless.
