I send it in for the 'upgrade' without hurting it's collector value (if any exists) ?

The serial is 90-087**, and it's an easy 98% gun, for $375

Yes, for the most part, any OM that has had the safety transfer bar system installed will retain it's value PROVIDED you keep the OM parts that were in it. (Ruger usually returns them.)
That said,, most of us who have handled OM's, and OM's with the transfer safety upgrade have found that the feel of the action afterwards is sorely lacking. Basically,.,,, IT SUX!
So, why send it back to make it feel worse when you try & shoot it?
JMO!!!!

LOL, gotcha. Coz it's for my boy, and I would rather have the drop-safety if it's not otherwise going to hurt anything.

In my opinion....it's better to teach your boy proper SA safety....and you can't do that with a revolver someone has tried to meet all the anti-Darwin-preventions. Besides...if you send it in for the "harmless" conversion.... all you will have done is risk the damage to the gun at the hands of an unknown person in the employ of the shop doing the modification...and the loss of the gun at the hands of the UPS delievery folks (and I"m certain you've NEVER heard of freight-companys losing things, right..???)

Why take the risk for a mod you don't care about? Teach the boy correctly, and keep your gun in your own possession.

My 2 sense.

If you send it back, I would recommend taking the old model parts out of it. That way you know you wont lose them!
