I Was Shocked...

My son, (in Alaska) told me that they had a comforter coming to me because they wouldn't ship it to Alaska. That used to really irritate me. But I had no idea what shipping costs. Mostly I use fixed rate priority mail boxes to ship to him. So we get the package yesterday, and I'm thinking "I can't believe they wouldn't ship this to Anchorage." I decided I wanted to get it there pretty quickly and went to Fed Ex to ship it. I nearly fell over when the guy told me the cheapest way to Anchorage is $182.79. Now this is for a box that is 24" X 18" X 12" and weights 12lbs 11 oz. UNBELIEVEABLE.
So I decided that was out and took it to USPS and shipped it priority for $75.35 Savings of over $100, but still what a rip off. Now you know why it's so expensive to live in Alaska. But it will be there by Saturday (theoretically).

You, more than anybody, know I've shipped a lot of stuff to Alaska.

I can understand an up-charge for a longer distance, but I can't understand an up-charge just because it's Alaska.

I'm a lot closer to Anchorage than I am Miami. But it costs more to ship to Anchorage.

Even in gun classifieds just about everywhere, prices quoted with shipping often have the disclaimer, lower 48 only.

Just Crazy I thought it was nuts when a friend in Australia mailed me a quilt at Christmas and spent $39.95 to ship it :shock: :shock: Man for a couple a bucks more you could have bought a plane ticket and delivered it in person :lol: :lol:

Yep, it's infuriating. I spent thirty six years on the other end of that supply line. Living in the smaller towns in Alaska is even more expensive than shipping to Anchorage.
