Robb,,,, as I sat there,,, studying the wall & emblem,,, I happened to spy an armed security guard strolling through the parking lot. (He was carrying a Ruger on his hip of course,) and it made me pause in my plans of trying to add the emblem to my collection.

Maybe they have a 'factory seconds outlet' store? Been meaning to go to the FAL plant down in Columbia S.C. and see if they have one. :-)


I also noticed the TV camera hanging off the side of the building watching that front entrance.

For years there was a bank up the street from me that always had an armed security guard out in front... has got to be one of the most boring jobs out there.... worse than holding the stop/slow sign at road construction.

Since they don't give the tours I won't be heading there; however if they did it is WAY off either way I would be driving (I-81 or I-85). Checked it out and just driving to the plant would add an additional 1.5 hours to my trip. I'll get the pictures from Contender instead. :D :D

Tours will not be offered to the public as long as they produce parts under ITAR regs. Federal rules so that discussion is over.

NC gave River 9.8 million taxpayer dollars to manufacture there, simple business dealings. Follow the money.

Actually,,, the NC governor worked out a deal BEFORE Mr. Fifer sat down with him about the plant. Mr. Fifer told me directly that he had a different business plan offer to the state. He wanted the state to purchase the building & property, lease it to Ruger under a 99 yr lease for $1, and NOT get any tax breaks. The governor had already gotten the tax break package approved,, thinking it was what Ruger would ask for.

That plant isn't exactly in my back yard,, it's almost a 3 hour drive away.

In any case, cs and merchandizing had to be moved from Prescott to mayodan to meet the rqmts of the deal, or the final transfers of the tax money would be Ruger's liability. The manufacturing model had to be greatly simplified due to lack of degreed talent, which is now an ASQ study in how to boot up a technical manufacturing site in a non- technical hiring market.
Could be worse, NC could have doubled the head count for the same $10M.

Jus saying, Prescott lost good employees to stuff the new hire roles for a plant that is essentially assemble and test. So goes the role of american hourly employees.

My town got BMW... I think besides a few tax breaks... we americans only want about 2 weeks a year vacation and this is a 'right to work state' never have figured out that term since it means you can be fired at the bosses whim....

But the good news... now there are over 8,000 folks working at BMW and just about as many in connected support businesses....

Hey Blum; It means they CANNOT force you to join a union to get hired or keep your job. I've always worked in RTW states and never had a problem, I have seen people get screwed by a union though.
