And does it hurt like the son of a B!
Woke up a couple of days ago with my left foot aching so I went limping around for a day - woke up the next day with my right foot aching really bad. Day after that I couldn’t walk on it at all so I got my son to take me to the doctor and he says I have gout, so I’m now I have to watch my diet and after a Cortizone shot in the butt, the aching is gone down and I am taking medicines for one more thing too. Man, it’s hell to get old.

I had it once. I hope I never do again. Who knew a cotton sheet was so heavy?
Neuropathy in the toes makes the sheet feel like that as well. Just brushing across them can bolt you wide awake. No gout here but chemo did a number on my fingers and toes so I know the feeling you describe

Gout, as explained by the doctor that said drink more water is caused by excess uric acid. If you stay well hydrated these won't build up to start with. But if you already have symptoms you essentially flush the uric acid out of your body. I strongly suspect hat quite a few folks don't drink the amount of water they should because they don't like making all the necessay trips to the restroom.

Solution to gout, and a bunch of other issues is simple drink more WATER. Americans are usually operating in a dehydrated state.

This beautiful water cooler is 2 steps from the control room door. It has the best water that I have ever had and I drink plenty of it every day.

My 1st wife's mother refuses to drink water and is constantly dehydrated to the point of urinary tract infections. She makes the old adage about leading a horse to water come true.

Yep, lots of water to stay hydrated, but if the telltale signs start up in my foot I take over the counter Naproxin for a day or two and the symptoms disappear.
Since I started doing that preventative measure over 10 years ago, I have avoided a full blown case of the gout.
My primary care doctor had prescribed that medication in stronger form before, but I found it in lower dosages over the counter at the grocery store pharmacy.
People with heart problems need to take care though. It can have negative side effects.

All the above are true
Getting better now
These things always start on a Thursday or Friday so I had to go through the weekend before I could get to the doc.
I can walk on it now but spent three days not walking in an empty house. Too stubborn to ask for help.
I also have other medical problems that complicate things.
Couldn’t even finish the gun cleaning I had started 😔

Allopurinol is used to prevent or lower high uric acid levels in the blood. It is also used to prevent or lower excess uric acid levels caused by cancer medicines or in patients with kidney stones. A high uric acid level can cause gout or gouty arthritis (joint pain and inflammation).

Easy fix, no need for a doctor. Eat pineapple, lots and lots of pineapple. get a can, eat the whole thing And drink the juice. Get some fresh and eat it all. Get some small cans of juice and drink one or two in the morning first thing. Drink lots of juice the first day. Stay off beer for a few days, No red meat, no spinach. It will go away fast. Usually the pineapple will fix it in a few hours But you have to eat a bunch.

Have fun.

Just to add, once you have gout the first time you’ll get it often. After eating any kind of red meat you'll get it. Salads can set it off, especially spinach. Tart cherry juice help, pineapple fixes it fastest. Go to a Natural Grocers store and get a bottle of Total Cleans. It helps prevent the outbreaks. I just keep pineapple juice handy and if I feel it starting I drink a couple cans. No change in diet needed with Pineapple. Be careful with the beer. I drink dark stout beer and that will set it off every time.

Good Luck.

Mmmm Pineapple juice and Rum. That's a good mix!!!

Tart cherry juice ! as much as you can stand, ;)
Love the tart cherry juice (you can find it in concentrate form and mix it with tap water to your desired intensity), or just tart cherries themselves. Good research on them helping a LOT and you can add them to things like salads to make them palatable. Increase water intake and decrease soda and ETOH to near zero.

I used to get gout attacks often. Alcohol and shellfish seemed to set it off. I took the allopurinol and that really helped keep attacks down.

Last year though I had bunion surgery and he said "we'll take care of the gout problem on that foot" and replaced the joint at the same time. So there is no joint there for gout to attack now and I haven't had an attack. Just waiting for it to hit the other foot though.

Careful, when allopurinol works its great but it has a rather high rate of side effects occurring (mostly skin issues that can be persistent).

With the bunion surgery I was able to quit the allopurinol and avoid the side effects.

I get gout once in a while. A dose of doctor prescribed Prednisone knocks it right out of me. It's usually prescribe in a time prescribed dose where I start out with a number of pills on the first then less on the second day and so on like that for a number of days.
