In the AZ oven (Phoenix basin)
Looked at the calendar and it says we have a bit to go before it is officially Summer.
HORSE FEATHERS! . . . When I have to go out in 110 degree heat, in a five to seven mph wind,
to feed the quail, IT'S SUMMER! (over a dozen little ones out)

As if that were not enough, went to take a shower this morning, and did not need to use any hot
water. The storage tank for this portion of the city is just under a half mile away, and the temp's
here have been above 100 for a while, with night time temps at eighty-plus, there is NO cold
water available.

It's Summer, I just declared it so. ;)

Sounds like Texas or Arizona. Beats the hell out of stinkin winter.

That part of the country wasn't considered habitable (by 'non-natives' ) prior to AC.
I find it interesting that the dingle-dumbs on TV are complaining about the average
temperature going up in the Phoenix basin. All anyone with a brain has to do is look
at the amount of land in farms. The lower the percentage of land in farms, the higher
the average temperature.

Remembering that one square mile is 640 acres, I can point to about twenty square
miles, no longer in farm country, in just the little area around where I live.

I remember reading a long time ago that Phoenix had the average temperature of 72 degrees. Only problem was, they had very extreme temperatures to achieve that average.

AMAZING! Some gal decided to go hiking in the Mountain Parks that border Phoenix,
where it was 113 degrees yesterday. They found her body along side the trail, dead,
just before closing time.

That after a very few days ago, some guy had to be hauled out on a "big wheel" (stretcher
with a large wheel affixed). He had pass out, but was revived.

ALL of the mountain parks are PLASTERED with signs reminding everyone to take a
LOT of water with them and to take their time in traversing the trails. - - - Seems a lot of
people can not read (think?).

Amazing.

Ah yes, Phoenix in the summer time, Step out of an air conditioned coffee shop and the crease immediately disappears from permanent press clothing.

Around me here in Pasco County Florida, all the woodlands are being ripped up and burned so they can install hundreds and hundreds of new housing (Mid 300's and UP UP UP !! ); Aint doing ANYTHING to improve or widen the roads to handle the increased traffic-- SNOWBIRDS STAY IN NEW YORK or Michigan.

Pat, look on the bright side- just go out like I did Monday morning and turn the hot water heater off. I do this every June 1st or so. You've still got plenty of hot water and you've saved a lot on your electric bill. Like Mauser9 said "beats winter"- no shoveling snow, wondering if the truck will start, HOPING some idiot won't slide into you-
and above all "IT'S A DRY HEAT! [It really is and it sure beats the hell out of summertime humidity- I was born and raised in eastern Iowa-Yuck!!

Buckshot Bill

It's feast or famine. My Wife is in Florida right now, just to escape this...

Up 'till this last week, IT SURE WAS! Single digit humidity for several weeks.
Even the dew point was single digit.

This morning the Dew Point was 56 degrees. It seems we are about to move
into the "monsoon" season (mid June to the end of September) where we get
the majority of rain for the year.

As to the water heater, I'm about to turn mine down a fair amount.

I . . DO . . NOT . . MISS . . . SHOVELING . . . SNOW!
:);):)

Was wondering how the house building was going on in Florida. Thanks for informing me. Heard prices ain't as good in Florida as they used to be. I am in the northeast and the new development behind me has average prices of $800,000. Florida and Arizona are my dream states. A nice condo sounds good to me about now.

That's the new "normal" around here. - - - Presumes you want a real(?) house.
Want a pool to go with with it? Add another 100K.
(speculation)= Home pools will soon come with a restriction that you MUST have
it totally enclosed, because it evaporates its full volume of water each year, and
we are "short on water" don-cha-no.

Well my dad was a realtor and I wish he could come back and see these prices. Passed in 2005 unfortunately and missed. I recall him selling property for around $30,000 in the "old"days. Down right scary these days. Guess some selling their property and upgrading. Still I can't fathom paying a $5000 per month mortgage along with property tax, homeowners, and HEAT. Bit pricey for this older guy!

For those that advised opening the windows at night to cool off the house, last night
it got all the way down to 85 . . . . at 05:30 this morning . . . . Brrrrrr. (roll eyes)

My ex brother-in-law was here last Saturday (grandson graduated HS) and he and
his wife were complaining about the temperature my Daughter/SIL keep their house
at (they said too cold [72]). They live just outside of Kingman, AZ at six thousand feet
(so they say), and just open the windows each night to cool off the house. - - - Down
here in Queen Creek (South-East Phoenix basin), as I said above, doesn't cool down
enough at night for the "open the windows at night" to do any good. - - - We just spend
more money than we like on A/C to keep it within reason.

This place is also stupid hot ! Summer is effectively about 8 months long. :(
:)

120 miles NW of San Antonio,TX

I can't even imagine living anywhere that hot. It is supposed to be pretty hot here the next couple of days, it might get into the low 80s. I would rather deal with a little snow during the winter. What I always tell people is, "When it gets cold you just put on a couple more layers, but when it gets to hot you can only take off so much before they arrest you." I have A/C in my truck because it heats up in the sun. I've never had an A/C in my house since I left Norfolk, Va. I don't do well in the heat.

I grew up in New England and I can't remember getting "a little snow during the winter".:)

BURRRRrrrrrrrrr . . . . It got "down" to 89 degrees last night. (I have a Davis weather station
that is set to record the lowest temperature for the last twenty-four hours)
Least any one think I am belaboring the point, go back a few threads and read how so many
people commented about "opening the window" to cool down at night, rather than running the
A/C. (roll eyes) - - - - All of that after it was 114 degrees yesterday (today will be "much" cooler
at 108).

The second part of this it to encourage anyone that is thinking about moving to this part of AZ,
STAY AWAY! - - - IT'S DAMNED HOT, and getting worse because of the amount of farm land
being converted to housing.

All of that said, it DOES reduce the amount of gasoline I use. I'm still on the upper half tank,
from my last fill up (the middle of last month!). Add to that not going out to eat (fix it at home),
and I'm doing my best to survive in today's economy. - - - Now iffin I just had a nice lady to
share the misery with, I'd be a happy camper. ;)

Holy cow that is HOT Pat. I am in the northeast and gonna hit 85 tomorrow. Usually don't see 90 until second week of July. Am near the ocean so trip to the shore tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your temps with us. Retired so gas lasts me 2 1/2 weeks. Don't care to think about heating season late this year!

I hear that!!

I was looking at the weather history for this year where I lived in CO. It shows a significant
amount of snow WAY beyond "normal" there. I'm really happy I was not there to run the
snow blower (that I left there) to clean up after it.

If you compare the total utility bills between CO and here in AZ, month by month, you find
that CO was higher, but only because of the MORONIC "temporary" taxes to cover the
cost of this or that "unusual" situation, that are never removed.

YES, here in AZ we get screwed for electricity from June to the beginning of October
(higher rate for those months), but it averages out (electricity ONLY) for the rest of the year.

Property taxes are HIGHER here, automobile taxes are HIGHER here, auto licenses cost
a WHOPPING 30 to 50% more, than in CO!

If I were not looking closely at eighty, I would be looking for a place back in CO (EXCEPT
for the politics). ;)

Yeah thought I read Arizona has high auto tax and registration renewal. Did not know you auto licenses were high. Here in Ma. costs $50-60 to renew a license every 5 years. Price is $60 for motorcycle endorsement stamping. Bet you don't have that stinking auto inspection like we have. That is another $28 per year. Fun to compare states. I thought anyplace was better than my state for getting ripped off. Guess housing is ridiculous all over the country pricewise. Sometimes I am glad I'm OLD.

We had a "feels like" well over 100 yesterday and they announced today that it was as hot as our hottest day last summer (which occurred in August). Not a great indicator for the rest of summer. And, it's hurricane season now too.

Ya know some of these temps you folks have quoted remind me of the Twilight Zone episode where the Earth tipped off it's axis and was spinning towards the sun!! Recall Rod Serling sayin the temp was 120 at night! Good series!
