It has been suggested that I don't belong on the Single Actions Facebook page.

There was a photograph of a Single Action revolver, posed on a table top with a knife and a beer. The can was open and there was a foamy glass of beer all arranged around the revolver. I voiced my objection, saying I find alcoholic beverages posed with guns to be in poor taste. I adhere to the old adage that the guns must be cleaned and put away before indulging in any drinks of alcoholic nature. I believe such photos convey the wrong message to any who happen to view the photo. While I don't drink myself, I did not criticize the choice to do so. Just think the photo is in poor taste.

So now it is suggested I leave that Facebook page, which I will gladly do.

Bob some people have principles and some people don't. You get to exercise your 1A just any time you take a liking to. I wouldn't get off the Facebook page, I just stick it back in their faces, post a picture of your six gun with the Bible.

Increasingly rare these days to find a man who will stand by his principles. I applaud you, and I agree with you 100%.

The rule in my shooting/hunting crowd is: "Drink all you want, but NO firearms once you've started drinking."

On a related note, I do not now, nor have I ever had, any use for facebook. I'm pretty sure you'll learn to get along without it.

Well, there are many, many people in this world who are offended by pictures of guns, and even moreso by the fact that people even own guns, and aren't the least bit shy about voicing their objections. It seems to me that we might be a little better off if we all spent less time trying to run other people's lives for them. Just a thought.

Beer with a single action??? Really! I would think beer should belong with a semi auto. Single actions deserve Kentucky Bourbon, or Single Malt Scotch.
BUT!
I agree with the sentiment about drinking and guns. Alcohol doesn't have any place around firearms. It's also kind of funny they asked you to leave just because you voiced a difference of opinion.

Back when we were teenagers camping out in the woods and fields the rule was
“ The Guns get put away when the beer and booze come out”.
They stayed put away until after camp breakfast the next morning.
No drinking during the day, just plinking.
Didn’t realize it at the time but it was the development of a principle.
Kept that for 50+years, still going .
Several years back I did post a photo of a bearcat, cigar and a glass of wine.
Real attractive pic. I didn’t See it as an endorsement on drinking and gun handling, more of
a statement, as a member noted, of a symbolic representation of the BATF.

It was just a pic, but I understand your mentioning it. I must belong to at least 10 FB pages on motorcycles. FB pages are a dime a dozen-move on.

Forum member Bkat and I came up with this tribute pic to Jim Blair, aka Piper, here on the Forum. I see nothing wrong with it. We made this pic for the 2012 TX RF meet.

I fully agree that firearms shouldn't be around when alcohol is being consumed.

Yet,, I also understand tributes to folks like "Piper" and the "BATF statement."

That aside,, Bob,, may I politely suggest you stay on that page & offer your wisdom when you can. Besides,, when you quit,, the negative folks win. And heck,, I like the idea of posting a picture of a fine SA,, along with a Bible,, & maybe add a cross.

Don't let them win Bob.

If they are that persnickety (I am a nicer word than I am thinking) being asked to leave is a good thing. Who wants to associate with people like that!

Hi,

All guns must be unloaded and cased/or otherwise secured before any alcoholic beverages are opened.

I learned that in my hunter safety class, 60 years ago this summer.

Most ranges I shoot at have a no alcohol rule on the actual range where guns are accessible. One doesn't even allow alcohol in a vehicle while on range property. I'd think anyone who was offended by Bob's opinion is probably a better candidate for leaving FB than he is.

I humbly thank y'all from the bottom of my heart for your most kind comments here.

Thank you very much!

Bob Wright I don't know who told you to leave. If it was the Administrator or something like a moderator I would heed it. If it were just another member I wouldn't worry about it. I wouldn't make a big deal about it but I would participate if I wanted to. Some folks just don't like any form of criticism & are offended that anyone might disagree with them. Poor them. Sometimes when people disagree with me it gives me an opportunity to see something from a different perspective. I might learn something.

Mixing alcohol & guns hasn't been too much of an issue for me. When I was young I was bad to drink but guns weren't really an issue because I sold all of them trying to get out of jams. When I was 23 about a year after I sobered up I bought myself a Winchester model 70 for a deer rifle. I have abstained ever since. I don't criticize anyone else for drinking I just know I don't have any business messing with it.

You're a good person for sticking to your belief.
Myself if just a simple picture of a firearm on a table including a drink would not bother me. It's not on the range. Perhaps it's a celebratory thing.
Personally, I will 100% will not hunt or do range time with active drinkers.

Bob I agree with your point about no alcohol when the guns are out and understand your points.... I find it a very good principal and follow it to a point. I will admit to drinking 'A' beer while carrying so I guess that could be hypocritical. Now with all that said, I understand your objection personally to the photo what kind of concerns me a little is what the next step might be.. Like: " let's ban the posting of photos of anything alcoholic on a gun forum".... that might just lead to even worse..... think about it.

Bob I will tell you a true story of a buddy I lost years ago! Paul was a pretty good shot with just about anything that fired. Small bore rifle,Bulleye target and IHMSA when I shot with him. I found out that he had stoped shooting for a many year because of the following story. Paul and the normal crew of local bar clients where setting in the local bar. The subject of shooting came up and someone bragged up Paul skills. Words and more beer where passed about. Finally a bet was placed. The whole group left the bar and crossed the street to the indoor range over a store. A target was set and Paul put on his shooting coat got hid rifle and shot the target at 50’! Everything was put away and back to the bar to consume Paul,s winnings! The next day when Paul sobered up and realized just what he had done he sold all his firearms and never drank another drop of alcohol! The scary part was the target! A Dime held between the thumb and finger of the guy that placed the bet! Paul was sober for 10 years before he started to shoot again.

I love a cold beer a good cigar guns and knives a picture of these things does not mean someone was out shooting under the influence.
