I finally got around to sending my other 30 carbine home with my son. He is going to shorten it to 4 5/8" for me. I already have one he did earlier and its a great little gun now. I like the 4 5/8 rugers and have a bunch of them but ruger never offered the 30 carbine in a short barrel so I bought a new one and had it shortened to what I wanted and after shooting it I really liked it. Later I picked up a well used 30 carbine at a great price and just had it laying around so I finally am having it shortened. My newre one had the warning under the barrel so it was no problem to deal with the older one has the billboard on the side of the barrel and will be partially removed at cutting. My son said he would draw file it off and cold blue it. I have ran into this problem before and just cut back to the billboard without disturbing the writing but that runs 5 1/2" instead of my favorite 4 5/8".

Doesn't shortening the barrel kinda defeat the purpose of the .30 carbine? I was always curious as to how much velocity you'd lose.

Lordy, that's gotta be loud.

Frank, Billy, and Dusty taught me a saying....

"I wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole"

I want a .30C BH, but I hope I can find the one they made with a 14" barrel.

It'd be interesting to see the impact to velocity. If I had to guess I'd say the difference between 7 1/2" and 4 5/8" would be 100 - 150 fps. But again that's just a guess.

Keep us posted and pictures are always good.

that fireball should burn that extra facial hair off like eyebrows  but it should be fun so who needs eyebrows anyway

Guess I am a little late posting pictures! Only problem is that I can't match the finish on the barrel with the rest of the revolver since I had to draw file the warning off and reblue. Therefore it looks like new while the rest has character(and looks better).

Looks great to me now I have a pair of them. Now I will use it instead of leaving it home and taking the other short one everytime I decide to shoot that caliber.
