Way back when,,,, our unit was being de-activated & re-assigned as a newly re-activated unit,, we were told to paint over our Huey nose access panels. The nose panel of a UH-1 Huey opened up to allow access to the battery & avionics. Since I had a spare nose panel,, I chose to remove mine & replace it. I was able to salvage my original nose panel & keep it. I had it in storage in my old home site. Well, we recently had to demolish the old house. I went to get some stuff out,,, and my nose panel as well as a jump seat was missing. I figured somebody had broken in & stolen it. Well, about a month after we'd finished demolishing the house, I happened to see the tenant of my Mom's house. It seems he and a worker of his had removed it to "prevent it from being destroyed." Well, I told him it belonged to me & I wanted it back. It's taken a week, but he delivered it to me this morning.

Great it wasn't lost. Consider the Smithsonian when you're done with it. Think of all the WWII nose art that was lost.

Hi Ty,

Good on you. I celebrate your memories.

It's funny for me. I kept no memories from those times. Damn those times.

I took so few photos back then, and I never saw a need to photograph our nose art. Lessons learned as a feller grows up, I guess.

These are the only photos I have that show any nose art at all.

Ya hafta struggle a little to see the crossed sabers on this Slick...

In one way it seems like a thousand years ago; in another, it seems like only yesterday. So many memories... perhaps too many. We have been so blessed to have kept company with such men; and in the end, we all win. It’s true; in the end we all win.
