I'll rain on this parade.

Matthew 6:5---And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men."

I view this sort of display as much the same thing. "I'm more patriotic than you, because my flag is bigger." Is this about patriotism, or getting in the Guiness Book of World Records? It's hubris like this that made 9/11 possible. Some big-money, big-ego jackasses wanted not one, but two of the tallest towers in the world. They were the gleaming symbol of Western economic domination of the world, and an irresistable target for those who hate us. Thousands paid with their lives for this hubris. Now, there's another target. And it can be brought down with $100 worth of equipment and supplies.

With all due respect to your opinion...

While I think the US should stay out of other countries affairs, I don't really care what the rest of the world thinks about us. Ever notice that when we cut off financial assistance that our enemies howl with rage. Well, screw 'em!!!!

Terrorist took down the WTC towers... and what did their countries gain??? An iron fist, the likes of which they probably didn't expect.

Well...didn't take too long to "offend" someone. (As is popular now a days).

The biggest flag and flagpole in our town is in front of a car dealership. I just wonder how much is patriotism and how much is publicity? Nothing against huge flags etc. but it doesn't mean you are more patriotic just more motivated. :D

You can certainly be patriotic and fly a small flag. And I see nothing wrong with an automobile dealership, an insurance company or a World Trade Center flying the flag of the United States. This is a symbol of respect not an advertisement. This company could obviously afford the display and we should all be grateful for it. If it bothers you it may be you are living in the wrong place. But then, you have a choice, right?

This is not a new idea. The flag at Ft McHenry was huge. So big, it could be seen for miles. The defenders flew it the morning after a brutal bombardment they took from British ships, as proof that they were still standing and ready to fight. A young poet saw it and write a poem about what he had just witnessed. The poem is "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Nothing wrong with a big flag, I think.

Same here, a local Ford dealer has a huge flag over his dealership. I guess you can call him both patriotic and motivated, I still like to see it. It never fails to remind me how lucky I was to have been born here.

Wow, I can't believe someone here desecrated this post. Does it really matter the reason? What matters is that people are reminded that they live in the greatest country in the world. We have our problems of course but would you rather live in Gaza, Ukraine, West Africa?

I have both the Star Spangled Banner and the Texas flag flying in my yard, am I trying to out do my neighbors because I have two. I think not. Does a really nice veterans memorial like we have here in Kaufman say we are trying to be bigger/better? NO, It is for the living to show that we respect the giving men/women who have given. If the cause/reason was wrong so be it, the outcome will be nothing but positive. IMO anyway.

Semper Fi:

Karl

By the way the USMC flag flies just underneath the Texas flag on military holidays.
