How to restore dented checkering ?

I have a dent in my checkering. I was going to redo the stock on an old Flat Bolt but may opt out to small repairs instead.
How to restore dented checkering is what I needing to know.

Look into doing a "steaming" of the wood. Basically, you place a damp washcloth over the area that has been compressed, and using an iron to add heat. The wet cloth provides the steam, and a lot of it can be raised.
