How much lube is enough?

I'm kinda of curious here. I use Lee's liquid alox stuff.

Normally I put them in a container with a bit of the stuff and swoosh them around until they all have an even coat. But it doesnt fill up the lube grove or anything.

Is the lube groove suppose to be filled flush?

Another thing: when I finish up the alox, I'm going to make my own lube. probably like 50% vasaline and 50% beewax or some combination. Then do you need to fill the grooves?

I don't know about the other stuff you mentioned but Alox don't need to fill the grooves. From your description, you are applying it exactly right.

If you get heaver leading you may need more lube.
If you have a "star" of lube at the muzzle you usually have enough.

Alox should be a thin coating all over the boolit. When you make your own lube, or use a conventional lube then it should fill the lube grooves. You will need to use a lube sizer or pan lube once you get away from the Alox.

What bullet are you using now?

For straight liquid Alox its best to have it warm, also leave your bullets in the sun for an hour or so to warm them up, this way you get an even coat when you swirl them. Then set them out to dry, this is usually enough, if you are pushing your loads on the warm side then you might need to add a second coat after the first one is dry.
A little Alox goes a long way. I use it mixed with Tre Wax & some mineral spirts on a couple of cast slugs that I don't size. One example is a 9mm slug that I make & use in 38's, it drops at .358" so I don't size it, just lube, load & shoot.

Like sixshot I like to warm my bullets before I put the alox on. If the sun is not around I use a old hair dryer. I also warm them up after about a half our of drying to help speed things up

90% of new users use too much alox. Then they get messy bullets and smokey shooting. Just a very thin coat will do. Some folks thin their alox about 25% to get thin even coats and quicker drying. Some like to warm both the alox and bullets before application. Alox works on the bearing surface and filling lube grooves isn't necessary and too much...
