How Much Gold Is There Really???

My first post on this thread...one of the many, many threads on precious metals. My favorite precious metal of all is "the poor man's gold" .....Silver......I will always think Silver is wat to go....as for the real estate taxes, ironically I have to pay mine today......I will not be paying it in Silver, I will pay with our existing for now, green currency.....I will hold on to my Silver, and in the physical sense of course....I have to say though that when it comes to "banking"......it all starts and goes and is run by Switzerland. "Swiss Banking".... Swiss banking runs our world.....

It's already collapsing. Look around you.

Nobody rings a bell to mark the collapse of civilization. The Roman Empire's demise took much longer than the United States has even existed. Centuries. All the while, smaller enclaves not only survived, they thrived.

The US and by extension Western civilization is well into a terminal phase of life, inexorably unfolding before us in real time. The parallels to the Roman Empire's later stages are striking. That doesn't mean you should cower in fear, sink into a deep depression, sell all your assets or squander them for that matter.

In fact it's a great time to be alive. Gold, silver, ammo, guns, honey (honey keeps forever!), liquor, maple syrup... all valuable commodities to trade for food, water, hunting / butchering skills, leather, clothing, warmth... etc.

Enjoy the ride!
Seems to be accelerating WAY more rapidly over the past year, between the financial disarray now in the western hemisphere and complete chaos in the middle east the majority of the planet has been de-stabilized in a very short time. Gold and silver still a good idea, but not to be exchanged for dollars, but for goods, services, or maybe a stronger currency. Of course, a little preparation in other areas is always a good idea.

Bread and circuses. It is more important that we build stadiums than make sure that kids can read.

However, in roman days most people knew how to build a fire and cook. Today, if the infrastructure collapses, we're screwed. No water, no power, no communications, houses aren't built for ventilation, modern medicines will vanish.

If society collapsed, I'd be dead within a year.

We're worried about the Islamic immigrants taking over. They'll be just as screwed. The ones screaming "HARAM! HARAM!" at people eating bacon don't know how to build airplanes or fix computers.

is karat a weight or quality?
i see 10k 14k etc....
It should be pointed out that the Karat system is based on parts by weight. For instance, 24 grams of 14K gold (Au) would be composed of 14 g Au and 10 g other metal (e.g. 7.2 g Cu & 2.8 g Ag), therefore 58.33% gold by weight. But:
14 g Au would occupy a volume of 0.725 cm3 (cubic cm),
10 g of other metal would occupy 1.073 cm3.
Therefore, the Gold would be 40.31% of the volume of the 14K.
