How hard are BH hammers?

Can a stainless Bisley hammer's hump be recontoured to match a BH frame with files or is it too hard for files? Would a Bisley hammer function with a standard NM BH trigger?

Yes you can use files, I do to get them very close to what I want. Lot's of strokes. :wink:
I use a 4" cutoff wheel to bulk the bulk.

and yes the standard trigger works fine infact better in a plow handle frame. Everything that goes into the gun is exactly the same. The Bisley trigger has ~1/4 more material forward the trigger.

Look close here is a picture w/ a Standard (bottom) trigger and a Bisley (top) trigger with the forward material removed.

Left gun, (.32 SSM) Standard Trigger w/ Bisley Hammer. ohhh and a little more, I also slimed the trigger and removed the backside material, looking for that slim gunfighter hair trigger look. :roll:
Trigger Material is hard, hard, hard, did I say hard.

Harder than Woodpecker lips. yuk, yuk. :wink:

The 'Green' Dremel wheels are for ceramic and carbide grinding. They might work, but I have never tried one.

k22fan, I use a 1" belt sander with a 100 grit belt and 30 seconds later you have your hammer "contoured"! After you have done 3 or 4, it gets routine...................Dick :wink:

Since I don't have either a belt sander or Dremel files will have to do. They work for G2 although he removes the "bulk" first. My guess is BH hammers are case hardened and I can remove that with a bench grinder and stones.

Now all I need is a hammer. I prefer straighter triggers because they keep finger contact in the area with more nerves so I'll stick with the BH trigger.

No, Sir, they are not. Hard through and through, like most ALL modern firearms. I cut, file, weld, grind etc., etc. frequently on my Ruger hammers. I just can't seem to leave "well enough" alone....... see the following example

Here's a "mid sized" OM .357 Flattop. I removed the hammer and fit up a OM Single-Six (much shorter) hammer. Ah, but I removed the upper portion and welded on the upper of a New Model Bisley hammer..

Oh, and the "finishing work" is NOT completed on this example.

That being the case I think I'll let good enough alone. With a new hammer I might have a hard time getting the trigger pull as good as what I already have anyway.

Not me. I ain't a big fan of the Bisley. Besides, I can see NO WAY to improve upon perfection....
