How about a 3" GP100 44 Special?

This is one Ruger DA I would buy in a heartbeat. I own a Smith 696 and have owned Charter Bulldogs and think the GP100 would be an excellent platform for the 44 Special cartridge. The 696 is on the L-frame platform, about the same as the GP100. Of course, it would have to be a 5 shot, but that's okay, makes for a better conceal carry package. Hmmmm, wonder if the 45 Colt would work?? Just dreamin'! Here's the 696....

Call him up if you got deep pockets.

Oh, I know, Sal. He has also done GP100's in 41 Special and 10mm. It just takes the $$$. 8)

Dave has one of my GPs being converted to 10MM right now. I'm stoked, hopefully its back before the end of the year.

I'm super jealous, that's gonna be so kool.
I love the 10mm, shame it never caught on. I have a Tanfoglio Witness Match in 10mm and love hand loading some smokers for it and letting them rip. LOL

I would not argue with 44 Special but would prefer .41 Mag.

Yeah, I'd take a serious look at buying one in either caliber.

David has a 3" 1/2 lug stainless GP100 of mine being converted to 44 special. It's been over 2 years now, so I'm hoping I get it soon.

I agree, Dave, the GP100 3" should be a fine platform for the 44 special!

Gotta love those 696s though!

Sounds great to me!
The GP100 is a bit overbuilt for the 357 (I always thought the Security-Six line was about perfect) but should be great with something a little larger.

There has been some criticisms of thin forcing cones on the S&W (I've never had issue with mine, but run it around 1000fps tops with either jacketed or cast 240gr bullets). I suspect, without having access to measure them, that the GP may be a little more robust in that area.

A 10mm would just be the bomb in a GP100! I'll bet it could handle real 10mm old school Norma style loads easily.

It would be cool, but Ruger nuts like us are a small part of the market and most buyers for the 3" GP's are happy with the .357's. I think Ruger knows that guys like us just have custom work done to get what we want anyway=)

Ruger made the Wiley Clapp 3" GP100, I could see a small run of .44 Special GP100's coming out but they would be limited edition and probably very expensive.

The only other good factory stock option is a 4" .44 Magnum Redhawk, or a .45 LC 4" Redhawk and have it cut for moonclips to fire .45 ACP.

It's a big, heavy gun, I have a 4" .44 RH and it's not the most viable choice for CC but it can work with an IWB holster and a good belt. I've made it work but I just didn't have a need to carry a gun that big for CC. Not something you're gonna hide under a tank top but neither is a 3" GP100 :D

This is a pretty big piece to carry concealed, if Ruger would take a look at how well Charter is doing selling those .44 Special Bulldogs they might look into a .44 Special GP100.

Back in 2009 I asked for the GP100 in .327 and never thought I would see it, but Ruger obliged and they're out there although don't seem to be a hot seller. These days you never know what will come out of Ruger. I was shocked to see a new .22 SP101 and a .22 LCR. LOTS of Ruger fans put a new .22 SP101 on the "would be nice but we'll never see it" list, myself included.

I was looking yesterday, Ruger makes some SA's that would be perfect for CC if one was inclined to carry an SA revolver for defense. The TALO .44 Special and .45 LC birdshead Vaquero looks about as perfect an SA carry revolver as I have ever seen, and I never thought about carrying an SA. 8)
