Honoring a Korean War vet

Just a little brag I guess.

My Uncle Jim (Chosin Res Marine) called today, mostly about some other stuff. He mentioned he and his wife are being honored at a luncheon at the S. Korean Embassy in Olympia WA. with the ROK Ambassador next week. He's 90 and thinks it's nice but that he doesn't deserve it. I told him he did, and it's about time he and the other Korea vets got some recognition. Just thought I'd pass that along to y'all.

While I have questions on the ambassador's motives the recognition is more than deserved. If even half the stories I've heard from my Korean era TOB's are even a quarter true your uncle deserves far more than a simple luncheon. If you would, please tell him he has my utmost respect and admiration.

I will. I made a previous post about him back in August, that you might recall. His story is in this recent book along with several other Korea vets.

I would like to echo all the above compliments & thanks. Miss Penny's Dad served in Korea, and WWII. Don't know much about where etc. Tell your uncle,, a brother vet says "Thanks!"

I just hope there won't be a bunch of protestors show up. It hasn't been advertised, so hopefully there won't be, but you never know.

Here's a story about Korea I got from my father and specifically one of the guys in his platoon, I remember his name was 'Spider' Martin. When ever they got together Spider would always complain about how the Chinese cheated him out of the Congressional Metal of Honor. Seems they were all pinned down and in fox holes several to a hole when a hand grenade landed in the one Spider and a few others were in... Spider immediately rolled over on the grenade to give his life for his comrades. The damn cheap Chinese piece of junk was a dud! Now, before he died, Spider was, after letters from a number of his comrades, finally awarded the Silver Star.

Having Served in Korea (1967-1968) your Uncle DESERVES a tremendous amount of respect and deserves to be honored at the luncheon.
