Found this at the thrift store yesterday. Sadly it’s not in the best condition.

BUT!!! The colors are very bright. The blues are really deep.

I’m just not sure what to do with the holes? I’d like to find a frame for it and hang it up.

Any suggestions? Or Comments?

On the positive side of things it’s not a reproduction. It’s actually from the 1940’s. Which is so cool.

$4.99 how could I pass it up.?

See the hole is on both sides. 😀

The next time I unfold it though it will be to put it in a frame. Or take it to get framed. But the paper is very fragile. And aside from the holes it’s in very good shape.

I suppose frame it to see just one side and use a backing board that’s blue. ? That might work.

Cool find 😎
I am not 100% sure but I think they have glass for framing with some UV protection. That might help you keep it from fading any more.

Thanks, and yes they do have the UV protection. It’s also got to be acid free.

For my wife’s birthday one year I took 4 old black and white pictures of her family and had them framed. It was her grandparents and her parents and her aunt.

It’s acid free with museum glass, which is UV protected and anti glare as well. Totally worth it.

Over 50 years ago I was helping my dad demolish an old chemical plant and I found a similar map in a desk drawer in the office.
I took it home and had it for years still folded up but it has long since been lost.

Kevin, ask the framer if it can be framed front and back with glass. I don't see why it couldn't and I would guess that you (or the framer) can find glass that is tempered so you could see both sides without worrying about it breaking. Just a thought.

If you stop for a moment you can see plainly that WWII truly was a World War. Good job for saving this for your family members.

if you have the time, before doing anything to them, maybe check out some "paper conservators" in the area. They might be worth more than you realize, and worth investing in restoration services . . . .🤷‍♂️

My wife had a nice idea. You can take it to a local print shop where they could scan it and digitize. Then you have the ability to print many different sizes and still keep the original for framing.
Sweet collectible.

a google search shows a bunch of these available. Along with a similar map -

"Follow The War - Hagstrom's Map of the World"

Nice find!! Personally, I would frame it as-is, maintaining its originality. I enjoyed viewing them. Thanks for sharing.

Imagine being at home looking at that map on the wall and wondering where your son was. Hoping he was ok.

My grandmother had a world map on her kitchen wall. Under it was a map of the US. If someone in the family went on a trip a pin was placed where they were until they got home safe.

I took it to the frame shop today. They’ve framed double sided maps before with two pieces of glass. And I’ve been using this frame store for years so I know they will do a good job.

Museum glass, UV protection and anti glare, the whole works. Pretty cool.

5 weeks! Ugh!

Quality takes time. But it's usually worth it.
