Holster for a 3" GP100 ?

I am looking for suggestions for a leather OWB holster for a 3" GP100.

I notice there is a lot out there for the 4" but I would questions my skills on cutting one down 1".

The one I've seen (on-line) is the Galco Speed Paddle. Anyone have experience with this one?

GALCO makes some nice holsters.

A paddle holster holding a weapon as heavy as a GP 100 would not be everyone's choice, because of the weight of the holster always tugging and pulling on the paddle mechanism.

If you go the paddle route get a sturdy belt to hold it in place.

Try SimplyRugged excellent concealability and comfortable to wear. Can be ordered with IWB straps for a few dollars and you have two holsters.

I also heartily Rob Leahy's Simply Rugged line of holsters. A pancake-style holster is ideal for the Gp100.

I use the sourdough pancake for my 4" Gp100, and I can conceal it in a t-shirt and light over-shirt. Like bronco45 mentioned, you can use it OWB at any angle or cant or IWB as I prefer.

I'm sure Mr. Leahy would be happy to make one for your 3" Ruger.

You did not say how you planned to carry the beast. I shop at Copsplus.com for Galco separates. in making should holsters. I suggest you stay with the "jack ass" shoulder straps. The others are made of smoother leather yet absorb moisture. If you are in Washington State sweat under clothing can be as much of a problem as living down on the border. Trust me, two years at MAMC, most of the time with a four inch Ruger DA stainless the one without adjustable sights.

Anyway Cops plus will beat any price Galco will charge. You can make a nice shoulder rig for driving et al. The give a good selection of speed loader pouches for the off hand side too. Buy the extra equipment kit for the shoulder holster and keep it in a safe place along with some blue locktite.

Blade Tech made a good kydex IWB holster for the beast and still good makes speed loader holders. The speed loader holders sit high and have set screws for tension.[ Blue Locktite is going to become you next best friend.]

As I said the example of Blade tech's IWB is a good example. It is quite standard in lay out. I looks like a large "Summer Special" with snaps holding the straps on. I sweat under it in any season. It is noisy[the gun rattles a bit] at the draw, unforgiving when it twists and shifts while driving under pressure of the seat belt. I learned to move it to a shoulder bag. I could not draw it any way. It is blazingly fast. It is now my transfer holster[Arizona law,long story]. You will need a VERY well made detected gun belt to wear this gun at your waist. Good double leather or Wilderness types.
[ If you have a CCW Wilderness has a product I find very useful. The safepacker. I sent mine back to have a seam moved so the barrel was held tightly. The net effect is I could get two speed loaders in the thing. It was not their fault. It was engineered for a semi- auto pistol and I had it modified for a 3" Ruger. They were very easy with it. The thing is handy and protects the gun. The speed loaders here are loaded with 200gr. hard cast lead[ set in little plastic cups]. ]

I have two belt varieties of Blade Tech one classic and new. Both are for the SP-101. I do not think you can get the old type from Blade Tech however if you could it is like the IWB with belt loops rolled over and hot molded on. Great little design very strong. The current offering is more of a slide on type and I like it very much. It is made of sheet Kydex and tightly molded with a tensioning screw.

Some advice that was unsolicited. Get an emery board and break the sharp corners from your gun. The nice thing about these nail files is they have a "safe side" and two cutting edges.

If you have a new gun you may want to invest in a compac grip. Brownells sells them. You will need a locater pin also. Too you will need a set of panels form a SP-101 and a screw. The screw is under panel screw and is kind of hard to find. You will need to buy the entire SP-101 grip. That will leave you with the grip and a locater pin. Or you can buy the compac grip{suggest buying two or three they are cheep and they wear] purchase the correct furrels and screws and have the inserts custom made. For about thirty dollars you can order a complete regular older style grip from Ruger. The cool thing is the inserts are stained black. Sometimes It is fun to shoot the short barreled gun with the standard grip. If you have a newer gun you have monster grips anyway. If you find that you do not like the MONO grip. you might give the oldies a try. The one good deal with the MONO grip is the lanyand ring from Bowen will replace the screw on the bottom. It is bad when you fall and loose your gun and there are Jaguar in the area. That is why I carry two guns!

I went through my GP's head to toe cleaned and de burred the innards. I marked the places where parts rubbed and smoothed them off. I never messed with the hammer engagement surfaces always let a qualified do that. It is usually inexpensive after you have done all the other work. While the gun is apart is a good time to have it lightly glass beaded. The hammer bobbed or made DOA.

Renaissance Wax lightly applied will help repel any latent rust. I apply wax to the cylinder face of a new gun to seal micro fractures. This helps in the control of carbon build up that can stop you gun. I use a pink eraser to remove to bulk of the deposits then a long bath in a cloth soaked in Hoppies No 9 or MP-7 and a good tooth brush and more or should I say light wax.

The guns sights are regulated for 158gr. bullets. I shoot mid-range stuff through mine any more. The recoil and blast just are not worth it and the forcing cone make overs are just to expensive. Anyway with the mid-range I get a fast follow up if I need it. Forgive the rant. k Calthrop

Now that you have a three inch. I suggest find a five inch. Put it on lay-away. When it is payed off put is some place safe. I'd finish the work up on the 3" and get it right and then, if you want to take a wild ride get the five up and running. Rugeritis Double Action style.
I specifically avoided talking about speedloaders. For years I have used Safariland exclusively and still do on with all GP's. Yet, lately I have been working with HK's because that is the what works only with the weapons I'm carrying. I carry all loose ammo in speed strips. It eliminates loose rounds and they are a good reload.
I train in a ammo free room with the same equipment I use day to day. I use A-Zoom snap caps a surrogates.

I use a Kramer holster for mine and it rides high and tight to my side.You might want to make sure you order your holster( if it's for concealed carry) with the same size belt slots as your belt.I think most Galco holsters are for 1 3/4" belts and if you wear a 1 1/2" or smaller belt,it's going to shift some from front to back.ETA:Noticed you're asking about a paddle holster so guess it won't have any slots

Another option is Hays Holster, who makes good quality, inexpensive, custom holsters. Also, another plus for Simply Rugged. I have several of each and they are good quality, good fitting holsters. With a heavier gun like a GP100, comfortable, secure holsters are a must.
