Hog leavins

Heard that in a western tonight. A young lady tasted some food & proclaimed it was worse than hog leavins.

Now considering the the amount of bounty that was harvested off a hog carcass in the old days, even now, hooves, head meat, ears , snout, tongue, chitlins, what on earth would be the leavins? A nice word for the,,,, the,,,, uh, excrement?

It was a G rated movie.

I took it to mean leftovers to be fed to the hogs.

Another one that always made me laugh. Cowboys used to call donuts “bear sign”.

Because visually a chuckwagon donut with no hole resembles a plle of bear poop

My GF is from Sicily and she told me that pigs will eat anything except rocks and they were known to eat the spiny skins of cactus pears. Yeowch!

I’m guessing it was any garbage left that only the pigs would eat. When I was young there was a pig farm on the way that only existed because the farmer had a deal with the Martin Marietta factory cafeteria for all the leftover scraps. As soon as the plant closed down the pigs went away. I swear the place still stunk for a year or so after.
