Hello, this is my first post, and I am glad to find this forum. Anyway....I just bought a nice standard .22 from the early 70s, and it shoots and cycles really well. The groups are nice, except they are really high, so I replaced the standard rear sight with an adjustable one. I thought it could adjust it to lower the groups, and it did, but not enough. It still shoots 8 to 10" high at about 15 yards with the rear sight bottomed out. Is there a replacement tall front sight blade, and have any of you folks ever done this? Thanks, Tom

welcome to the Forum.....the "standard" auto has the sights ,front and rear are lower to the 'bore'. you MUST use a "low profile" rear sight, these are called 'LPA' from Midway or Brownells, other wise you will need a replacement front that is MUCH higher, too high really, the muzzle will look like an old can opener...........

Because of his choice to use the Ruger rear adjustable sight, the factory front sight needed to be replaced with a taller version.
Volquartsen used to carry these taller front sights, but I'm not sure they do any longer.
As was posted above, there is a rear adjustable sight available for the Ruger Mark II pistols, that will replace the rear sight.......no problem. After the first, initial run of Ruger RST 4 pistols, all the rear sight dovetails went from ¼ inch to ½, so the LPA sight for the Ruger Mark II will go right into your pistols dovetail. Normally, the LPA rear sight is very compatible with the Ruger RST 4, fixed front sight, but I have heard that some folks claim they need a front sight slightly higher. I've never encountered that situation, and this one works just fine with the front sight provided by Ruger in 1970.

There is also a set of aftermarket sights that match up for a Standard. I actually have a spare set. It's the easiest way to have a set of adjustable sights on a Standard.

I am going to check the set I have and make sure they aren't the LPA type and my pistol isn't a bent freak. If it turns out to not be the correct set, I'll have to look into getting a proper rear sight. I can't have much fun aiming at the ground to hit a 6" bullseye at waist level. I did know how much I needed to get on target, but if it would look like a can opener, I'll have to get the right parts. Thanks for the info. I'll be at our hunting camp for a couple days, so I'll check my options when I get back to civilization.
