Hawkyes with sights

Saw an advertised "new for 2011" Hawkeye on GB today. It was in 308 , matte blue , and had open sights. The front was a traditional Ruger but the rear was a Williams ramp style sight. I can't comment if it would be a better or worse sight than the older rears that Ruger used since I've never seen the Williams in person.

I couldn't find any info on the Ruger website. Could it be a dist. run of rifles?

This might be the reason I needed to buy a Hawkeye even tbough I still despise the matte finishes in both blued and ss. I could possibly overlook that detail for an RS model if I couldn't find a MkII in the configuration I wanted.

Has anyone else seen these and know if they are in more than the 30&?

The rifle you saw is new for 2011. It's a 20" rs model with iron sights. They also have an African model in 223 and 9.3x62 with 23" barrel with iron sights. I guess the 223 is a training version for the larger calibers. I suppose the 20" 308 is designed to compete with Remington's Model Seven and the new 20" Model 70 carbine. The 9.3x62 interest me alot. I searched gunbroker and found the ad. That is a sharp looking rifle!

I was thinking about getting a Gunsite rifle, because I wanted a light rifle with iron sights, but I think this 20" barrel gun might be better suited for my needs. It looks great. Like a Ruger Compact magnum, but in 308.

EDITED TO ADD ... Maybe I will need to get both of these guns!

Cool! How do you like that rear sight compared to the traditional one used in tbe past? Pros n cons? It has to be easier to adjust...

Nice sights made by Williams easy to use and sight. Got my scout Gun coming today

I whined about Ruger needing to offer one in this configuration just a couple of months (5-6) ago. Looks like I'm going to add one to the collection or eat my words. :wink:

Might as well get one instead of eating your words. I used to say the same thing about #1A's, but when Lipseys got Ruber to make the #1A in 35 Whelen, 257 Roberts, and 6.5x55, I had to put my money where my mouth was. I have a tang safety 308 M77RS 22" I bought new in 1980. It's still one of my favorite rifles. I don't think a shooter could have too many 308's. Bob!
