I have been looking for quite some time for a light handling 7mm-08 in blue/walnut configuration. The Hawkeye fits, feels, and points great for me but I could not warm up to the satin blue finish. I have held a few over the past couple years and tried my best to convince myself I can live with that finish but couldn't do it. Last week I had stopped at a very small gun shop that just opened up. He only had about a dozen guns on display and one was a Ruger Hawkeye. I checked it out and to my surprise it had the deep blue finish, walnut stock, in the 7mm-08 caliber, brand new in the box! My search was finally over and of course it came home with me. :D Did Ruger change the Hawkeye's from a satin finish to blue? Their description still states "satin finish"? I checked the serial number and it seems to have been made sometime this year. I am really excited about my find and can't wait to get it dialed in.

What you are calling "satin" finish, is actually Ruger's "matte finish" this finish is no longer available (thank God).
The Hawkeye now comes with a gloss finish, the same bluing that they used on their MK11's of yesteryear.
For some reason they call the new gloss finish, satin.
