So once you purchase your 30-06 Hawkeye Guide Gun, do you actually need to have another hunting rifle in America?
Nothing wrong with a 30-06Dual sighting options & with the great 06 it's a fine package for versatility, but it's heavy. Sheep & Goat hunters,,, hi country hunters may not give it a second look.
This discontinued synthetic Scout at 1# less & 1.25" or more shorter(adjustable LOP) OAL length in 6.5 CM checks some boxes as well.

Didn't mean to imply there was, a great cartridge for sure. But if I was a bettin man I'd say an 8.1 # rifle plus scope weight wouldn't be preferred by the majority. Or maybe not?Nothing wrong with a 30-06
Just agreeing with you that the 30-06 worksDidn't mean to imply there was, a great cartridge for sure. But if I was a bettin man I'd say an 8.1 # rifle plus scope weight wouldn't be preferred by the majority. Or maybe not?
But didn't I say in my first post that the 30-06 was great? so thinking i had that covered.Nice collection of Rams BTW.
There is that... the .30 cals (30-06 or .308) are perfect for Mule Deer, Elk, Moose, even Bison. Overkill for Whitetail or Pronghorn. If you're shots are less than 200-300 yards, you have a lot more options. If you are shooting farther than 300 there are better options on that end of the spectrum also.Guess if you don't expect any Alaska trips, cartridges less than the Old 06 could be more versatile?
But does one really require BUIS on little critters? Or Controlled Round Feed, (CRF) wouldn't it be far more thrifty to use a push feed like a Remington 40X Rifle and the Precision at lower cost for critters of a much lower MOA at longer distances? Still, at close range even the 06 from a 3 MOA Ruff &:Tumble Ruger might be effective? If you’re a “hunter” then the old cartridge is great (implying planning, stalking, patience, and getting close). If you prefer sniping from 400+ yards, then you’d probably want to get a new cartridge designed for fast-twist barrels and top it with a big, heavy high-power scope. Despite this tongue-in cheek perspective, I think a matching Hawkeye Predator in a varmit cartridge (e.g., .22-250) would be a nice match.
When I was looking for a .22-250, I wanted a 40X, but since Remington’s problems, I couldn’t get one, so I went with Ruger and they happen to have controlled round feed. But does one really require BUIS on little critters? Has your Ruger proven to be sub MOA?When I was looking for a .22-250, I wanted a 40X, but since Remington’s problems, I couldn’t get one, so I went with Ruger and they happen to have controlled round feed.
I bought a used nice condition M77 Mark II target in .22-250 and it is sub-MOA. Since at the time of purchase, I was also considering Hawkeye Predator in .22-250, I bought one of those, too, since they had just discontinued it, so it was my backup plan, but it’s still new in the box and never even taken out yet. I’m on the fence about selling it (the Hawkeye), since the older Mark II target was the one I always wanted years ago.Has your Ruger proven to be sub MOA?
