Due to the smoke that has drifted all the way to Kansas, the moon last night was a pumpkin-orange crescent against a black sky. Pretty dramatic. Of course, the sun rose orange this morning. Our normally clear-blue sky looks like a painting that has hung in the home of a smoker for years. It has my eyes itching and watering, too.

Know exactly what you mean. I've had a few days where the "mountain" ridge to
the South is barely visible (just over a quarter mile away).

Let's hope the shaky side finally learns about fire mitigation.

:D

You should be here 5mi from the fire. Ash coming down like snow. https://patch.com/california/los-angeles/bobcat-fire-air-quality-compromised-throughout-la-county

Even at the coast we are dealing with it. Nothing like those inland but enough to force me to use an inhaler a few times.

When you realize the size and number of fires not only in California but Oregon as well, it’s not surprising how far and high the smoke has drifted

I can believe that.

Think back to several posts I've made about fire mitigation.
CO had the Hayman fire multiple decades ago. (IIRC) 325 thousand acres.
That got a LOT of people thinking about and working on fire mitigation.
How many BIG fires have they had since then. Can you say NONE?

Once these fires are brought under control, we'll see if they learned anything.
