Looking for some hot loads in 44mag & 45colt using Sierra 300gr.JSP bullets & Win. 296.
I was hoping someone with a Sierra manual could help. I really can't find anything online. And what I have found I want to make sure about.
44mag using Sierra 300gr jsp & 22gr. of 296. Max
45colt using Sierra 300gr jsp & 22gr. of 296. Max
I'm using cci 550. primers.
And it is for a Blackhawk & S. Blackhawk

In both those calibers I shot many 310 gr lead cast bullets using 21gr WW296 but I dont know how that will help you any as you need to try and work from min load an find what your gun lkes. Good luck and I am sure somebody has used the Sierra jsp and they will report shortly. Chief aka Maxx Load

WHY PRAY TELL, do you not BUY a new SIERRA LOADING MANUAL ??
ALSO, you'll have a difficult time not having the CCI 550 primers fall out of the primer pockets.

Yea I guess the 550's would fall out. I ment to say 350.
And I don't want to buy a Sierra manual at this time.
Was hoping someone who had a Sierra manual would be kind enough to pass the info along to me.

Chief Ive loaded 300 XTP's with 19grs. & Nosler & Speer 300's with 21grs. In the 44mag.
Speer 300's with 22grs. XTP 300's with 20grs. In 45colt.
I just bought 100 300gr. Sierras for 44mag & 50 300gr. for 45colt & already had the win.296.

SO , NOW you are asking someone to take copywritten information from a SIERRA MANUAL and steal it just for you. Yeah right !!
Hey buddy why don't you take your attitude somewhere else! I don't need it!
Go bother someone else's thread.

Take a piece of dowel rod and mark a line representing the seating depth of the bullet. Add H110 to the case until the mark on the dowel lines up with the case mouth. This is your maximum load. Reduce 10% and work back up. Then you will realize your best accuracy is the original amount. This will probably be over book max. YMMV.

I like it. A load out of the Backwoods Manual.

If you call Sierra directly, they will give you their data over the phone. I have done this several times in the past. (800) 223-8799.

44 mag with 300 grain Sierra JSP and WW296: Min: 18.4 grains; MAX: 21.6 grains

45 Colt with 300 grain JSP (these are great bullets, BTW) with 296: Min: 17.9; MAX: 20.5

These were tested from 7-1/2" Ruger Super Blackhawk and Blackhawk revolvers, respectively.

Thanks Doug
That's what I was looking for.

I went with 21gr. for 44's & 22gr. with the 45's.
And just for reference Sierra's manual is probably the only one I don't have.
I even have an old Lyman laying around somewhere but couldn't find it for the family picture.

I load Cast Precision 300 gr LBT gas checked bullets with 18.5 gr of H110. It comes out of my 7.5" SBH Hunter at 1150 fps. I tried half grain increments all the way up to 21 gr but didn't gain that much velocity, had a lot more sound and fury and was not as accurate. It's my standard bear country load.
