Gunsite scout?

Guys ,I've eyed this rifle since it was first put in the catalog. Every time I go to the gun store that has one I hold it and drool after it. I love the way it feels. I'm looking at possible getting a new rifle this year. Its purpose, just to have and shoot. I cant hunt deer with it here in Illinois but would like to add something to my safe. Right now only centerfire rifle I own is a Marlin 336 ss in 30/30. I'm really interested in adding a .308 or 30-06. Other contenders are Rem 700bdl with iron sites, Rem 750 or 7600. These are ones that really intrest me, unless I found a good deal at the store on a used gun . One thing they all have in common is iron sites. I just like site on my gun. So if you have a Scout how do you like it. I've done a lot of reading of different reviews and cant find much bad said about it except from those who are Ruger haters and don't like Ruger in general.

I just got one 2 weeks ago. First Range time tomorrow!!!
Got the EER Scout scope bore sighted, mid level rings to co-index the iron sights
Got a variety of ammo.

BETTER be good, I traded my beloved RSI 308 for it.....that was hard to do, but the GSR has been calling since it came out....

I have one and I love it. I don't have a scope on mine; like you, I enjoy shooting with iron sights. The only issue I have with it is that the iron sights run out of elevation adjustment and there is no replacement sight available. Had the same problem on my Mini 14 but the Tech Site aftermarket sight fixed it (they don't make one for the Guide Gun). I don't think you'll be disappointed with it or the Model 700 you mentioned. To me, the Guide Gun handles a lot better than any other rifle. It just feels right.

Thanks guys. Also looking forward to the range report. I also have been bitten with the bug since it first came out but never picked one up. Time will tell what I get.

Cold blustery gusts up to 50 mph yesterday limited my range time.

Good news! After a few to zero thing, the crucial question: how accurate IS it???

Yes I'm pleased. My binos showed new splashes of hits on the painted gong in the shape of a fat banana.

Shot mine this week and took some pictures.

I purchased a new magazine and wanted to test it out.

This is a great rifle. I was hitting rocks at 250 yards over and over.

You can see the "plum color" in the receiver.

I love mine but the magazine prices are stupid. Might sell it and put the money to an AR at least I can still pick up colt AR mags for 14.99.

I checked Ruger.com for MSRP mag prices......Geez.....even the 3 shot was $40!

Not sure how many loaded mags are practical to carry around with this kind of weapon. Bolt action certainly reduces rate of fire, and caliber solves any question of terminal ballistics. Cost of the ammo certainly will affect casual rounds as well.

If anyone has a source for better priced mags please post.

I have:
2 steel 10 rounders
1 steel 5 rounder
1 polymer 5 rounder.

The price of polymer mags are within reason but the steel mags are not price fair in my view.

I looked at a scout and seen the mag prices were up there a bit in cost.
