They are only planning 500 of these in blue, and 500 in stainless. They "might" make more if they sell quickly, but 500 is the plan. Better buy now![/url]

I'm a Lipseys dealer and these are supposed to be Lipseys only and I still can't get one. :(

Any idea what the street price is?

MSRP is $600, I would imagine street price would be $525-550 thereabouts. Very reasonable I think, especially considering that there will only be 500 blue and 500 stainless produced (in the initial run at least).

Awesome! Now, should we gamble and wait for the less expensive regular production model, or go ahead and pony up the extra cash for the Lipsey's offering?

(shades of the .44 Special release...)

Definitely buy now. IF the 45 Flattop becomes a regular production item, it still won't be one of the first 500 limited-run sixguns. Also, the 45 Flattop's $600 MSRP is $55 LESS than the current standard-production large-frame Blackhawk 45 convertible, so IF the 45 Flattop becomes a regular-production item, I don't see it going down in price.

So what is the load limit on these? The Gunblast article suggests standard pressure...".the 45 Flattop can take full-power 45 Colt ammunition. It is not built for the 45 Magnum class of ammo". To my eye this means the same loads as USFAs and Colts.

I don't have the link right now on hand, but I believe I'd say it will handle the level 2 load from Handloader 265, which is a 280gr Keith at around 1000fps.

Just picture that blued revolver with a 4 5/8 barrel and a Super hammer..... :)

Ruger did the next best thing to a SA 480 here, But as it stands I already have a midframe 5.5" 45. When the 4 5/8 comes around Ill have to have one of em :)

Bet your beauty can manage better than 2.25" groups too!

Nice sixgun the Lipsey FT, I don't mind that it's "barrel challenged" for my taste and can't handle a Linebaugh loading, but the accuracy is kinda mediocre coming from a Ransom Rest...JMHO

(I wouldn't mind one too much though.. )

Assuming you're quoting Jeff's group numbers - 2.25" was among the WORST loads accuracy-wise. Best were just over 1", I'll take that any day. Interestingly, the absolute worst load for accuracy, Jeff's pet 45 ACP load of 200-gr LSWC ( H&G #68 ) @ 2.90", is match-accurate in 1911s. He's won many matches using that load. Go figure.

My apologies Boge, I thought those were the best .45LC groups...

In that case, bravo Ruger, you built a .45LC "right" for once. How about using the same care with the big frame BH .45....

No apology necessary!

Better yet - a 5-shot 480!

This is what I am waiting for. Maybe Lipsey's can get a short run put together for 'proof of market'.............

I've already got a 5-shot Ruger 480 single action.
Of course, it has a double action trigger, but there is a single action notch on it!

Nice try, but no cigar Jeff, I'm with Boge! (BTW, being kinda "in the know", what's your take on whether Ruger will ever release a 5 shot SBH?)

Back to the .45 FT. I'm curious if since the throats seemed about spot on, if Ruger has made the charge holes ("chambers") themselves smaller than the usual gigantic porportions...eg .486" plus. Any bulging of cases above the rim with "stouter" loads?

(Not that it matters much I guess, as this isn't a platform to hotrod anyway...)

This is great news! Maybe Lipsey's will get a run of .41 maggies on the mid frame next...

The chamber throats would each accept a .452 bullet, with a snug fit. A .455 bullet would not go in at all.

Nice thought. I keep spending my fun money on new stuff, but THIS would be the ideal gun.

Quinn boys? thoughts?

I never really got into the 41 magnum. Dandy cartridge, but I have plenty of 357, 44, and 45s. The 41 would be an great choice for a man with only one sixgun, but I would hate to be that man.

Regarding that pic you took of both cylinders from the rear... I believe those are the slickest chambers I have ever seen on a Ruger.

Yep, extraction was very easy, even with Plus P 45 ACP.

Man...this should make the perfect "camp gun" for my neck of the TN hills. Can do it all...Hogs, deer, SD, plinking, shoot a variety of ammo, easy to reload for, semi-rare, inexpensive, small, light, can make you biscuits in the morning too.

May have to get in on the stainless run.
