You may have seen my first post about acquiring a SS Security Six. Went first thing today to pick it up. Drove about 1 1/2 hours to the shop that had it. Well, lets just say I was a little disappointed in the shape it was in. Nothing wrong with it mechanically but it was a police trade in. Would have cleaned up ok but I was hoping for more. Pretty disappointed at this point. Looked down through the display case and look what I found. Blackhawk .357 in like new condition! Looks like it is going to be a good day after all. Worked out a fine deal and brought her home. Ever have one of those days?

Good for you! That's a great choice.

But, regarding the Security Six...There's something to be said for a tight, nice shooting gun, that isn't quite so pretty.:wink: Especially if the price is right.

Where're ya from in S.W. Mo.?

WAYNO.

That's a great looking Blackhawk but don't be to negative about a sound working Security Six either. I find that I get the most target shooting enjoyment out of guns that had a little "honest wear" on them before I bought them. Buying stainless revolvers sight unseen I'd rather wind up with a great action than a pristine surface finish. If the finish really is objectionable you can resurface it with the finer grades of Scotch Brite pads available from automotive body shops or some hardware stores. If you make an effort to you can make it look like original finish but 95% of the of the jobs I've seen look like resurfaced guns. I'll generally pay more for stainless guns that look like original finish with the wear I expect from use, and I think eventually collectors will value original stainless finish, but I'm in the minority.

Best Regards;

Gil

Nice gun and congrats, you did well!

I agree. I wanted this gun as a shooter and have always heard about how solid they are built. However, the price was not even close to being right. Price was closer to a NIB condition gun. After I noticed the Blawkhawk was in very good condition my interest disappeared in the Security Six. At least for now.....lol

I'm in the Springfield area.

I believe this gun would have cleaned up externally pretty well. The thing that made me backup was that the gun looked like it had a truck load of shells through it without any cleaning. The most fouling in the barrel I have ever seen on any gun. Just made me wonder. That and the price was quite high for a gun in this condition. Decided to hold off and wait for one in a little better condition.

Oh...I thought you bought both. It sounds like you were wise to back away from the overpriced Security Six. Finding the Blackhawk's favorite loads will keep you plenty busy for a while and there will be other Sexurity Sixs to chose from.

I took the Blawkhawk to the range yesterday. Very fun gun to shoot. I was able to shoot about a grapefruit sized patern at 15 yards. Not to bad first time out. I'm very happy with my decesion. I was able to work out a good deal on this gun.

Nice Blackhawk. Too bad you had to pass on the Six; sometimes you just have to walk away though.

A .357 Blackhawk or a .357 Vaquero is in my future. Maybe both.

I'm not a collector, more of an "accumulator", and I shoot what I buy. Responding to a newspaper add for a .38 Security Six, I found it to be a Service Six, possibly stainless, several dings, with a black finish and Hogue monogrip, plus some cheap aftermarket wooden grips. For $280, I took it home. It shoots well, and is fun to reload for. It's my "front door" gun.
