Haven't been here for a while but have some new additions to the family and thought folks here might appreciate them. Although I've hunted with other rifles in the past few years, the bulk of my hunting has been with Rugers.

From early this year, a used Ruger #1 in .280 Rem. The previous own had very thoughtfully had it chromed and replaced the trigger with a Moyer before deciding to let it go for much less than I thought it was worth. I also cobbled together a stainless MKII in .338 WM from an action I purchased at a gun show, a 22" Ruger take-off barrel someone in AK had thoughtfully fluted before deciding it was still too heavy, and a boat paddle stock purchased NIB from Numrich Arms for a pittance. Todd Lockburner of Lockburner Firearms (Monument, CO) put it all together for me and blasted the shine off the stainless. After a couple trips to the range I put a Sims recoil pad on it.

Both rifles shoot great, too!

This cow elk didn't care much for the .338 WM and 225g AccuBonds. (CO, 2011)

The MKII .338 WM pictured above and again (left) below has a sibling, a stainless MKII in .30-06. The .30-06 (on the right) came in a brown laminate stock but I replaced it with one someone had put sling studs in before deciding to give it to me, delivered, for $50. Did I mention I really like boat paddle stocks?

I've had this M77 in .257 Roberts since 2004. Made in 1989, it came to me with a Leupold M8 4x in the rings and no scratches under the tang safety. It is easily my favorite rifle. (WY, 2009)

Here is a pic of my MKII in .300 WM (top). Sportsman's Warehouse was clearing out their inventory of boat paddles a few years back and I scratched a long time itch. The stainless MKII .30-06 (bottom) is the same one shown above. Before elk hunting with them last year I took both rifles to the range. With 5 shots I nailed two clay pigeons on the 600 yard berm, one with each rifle. (The shot count was split 3-2 but I don't recall which was which.) Did I mention I REALLY like boat paddle stocks?

This cow didn't like the .300 WM or 180g North Forks nearly as much as I did. (CO, 2006)

While in Houston in 2006 for my wife's leukemia treatments, I picked up a used Ruger M77 in .,30-06. Hoped to hunt pigs with it while down there but it didn't work out. 165g North Forks worked out on two elk in 2007, though. (CO, 2007)

From left to right: M77 .30-06, MKII .30-06 (same as above but in original stock), some off-brand M7-something-or-other in .30-06 and the MKII .338 WM in process.

More gun porn while I'm posting pics. A rifle like the one that started it all, one of three that showed up under the Christmas tree back in the very early 1960's – an Ithaca Model 49 in near pristine condition I found at a gun show a couple months ago for a price I couldn't refuse. (I let the original slip away some years ago.)

No Rugers here, but leverguns are way too much fun. From top to bottom, Marlin 1895 .45-70, Marlin 375 .375Win, Marlin 336CS .30-30, Browning B92 .44 Mag.

Thanks. When I saw that .280 I knew my search for a #1 was over. Good looks, good price and chambered for a cartridge I wanted. All I had to do was explain it to my wife...
