GS32N Found One!

Wow. Nice one! No clue what it's worth ~ never seen one before.

Welcome to the Forum.

Thanks guys. I was lucky to find it. I told the guy I would buy it without seeing it (he needed some money) and he showed up with this thing in the original box with the papers and I about wet myself!

Welcome to the Ruger Forum.

Cool. I'm guessing a Naval Investigative Service Speed Six .357.

Very nice. No idea what it's worth, but if you like you can send it to me.

I'd guess well past $500 and pushing $1,000 for ANIB with box. Love to have one land in my lap like that.
May we ask what you had to give for it?
Serious envy operating here.

Yes it is an NIS (Naval Investigative Service) gun. If you search gs32n on the forum you can read a little about it. Let's just say that I paid "not very much for it" $350.

WOW! Nice clean 357 mag, stainless, short barrel Speed Sixs are going for more like $400.
You got it for less than a 'shooter' price!
SCORE! :D

Thanks for the suggestion Terry. I have looked across the previous discussions about this gun but none of them seem to suggest a real value on the gun. Most gun shops I have talked to don't even know what it is worth.

No one else knows anything about this gun huh?

Here's from the Reference of Ruger Firearms:

GS-32N with "U.S." and "N.I.S." (Naval Intelligence Service) markings, matte finish and yellow or red front sight insert. Known s/n range 153-29xxx to 155-37129 and 159-95827 to 159-95946. Extremely rare. Note: This model has Ruger’s normal address rollmark on the left side of the barrel and the "Warning" statement is not present.

First one I ever saw was at the 1983 NRA show in Milwaukee...either the Navy or Armed forces had a display there. That gun had a yellow front sight insert.
As I remember it, the yellow and red sight inserts had to do with the height of the front blade. If weaselmeatgravy here on RF catches this thread, he can verify that for sure.
About ten years ago, maybe longer now, Ruger did one of their warehouse cleanings and as I remember it there were somewhat over 100 of this model along with somewhat over 100 US marked Blue .38 Special Service-Sixes shipped to Davidson's for distribution. And from there they went to the masses.
It is tough telling how many of each model were actually made, but since the gov't isn't known for letting this stuff to the civilian market, its probably safe to say there aren't any more than say 150 of each model out there today. Yes, both are rare.
Surprisingly, there aren't many Ruger collectors out there who have much interest in this kind of thing. But U.S. collectors love them!!
