Hello, I have a GP100 (4" SS) made in June 15, it has the Hogue grips on it which I like, but I took it apart and cleaned it, managed to get it apart and back together, but I had a hard time getting the screw on the bottom of the grip to go in, I fear I may have screwed (pardon the pun) up the thread on the screw or the U shaped thing the screw goes into, I'm not sure what to call it...looks like it will be easy to replace but I was hoping someone might have the correct name or part numbers. I got it in but now scared to take it apart again. Thanks in advance.

I would just call Hogue and tell them what happened and hopefully they will help you out. Ruger might even be able to help you out.

That U shaped thing is a good enough name for that thingy, call Ruger customer service explain to them what happened and I'll bet they send you a whole new grip and hardware at no charge.

I could go look at the packaging I have in my shop for the name of that part but I believe it is called the stirrup ( like on a saddle) . The nut that the screw threads into is part of the stirrup assembly. Hogue or Ruger should be able to supply both parts.

Sometimes you have to work that screw and stirrup around inside the grip to get the point of the screw to go into the hole in the stirrup. What happens is when pushing the grip on, the stirrup pivots one way or the other. Try pushing a wire through the bottom of the grip and into the stirrup while pushing the grip onto the grip stud to maintain the alignment. Then put the screw in. :D

Stirrup thingy don't pivot it has a slot it slides into keeping it straight.

The stirrup will pivot until it gets started into the grips inletting channel. Then ,as Sixgun said ,it will be guided straight the rest of the way. It does not hurt to shine a light into the hole to make sure the threaded hole is inline with the hole in the grip though.

With the grip off the gun, will the screw screw in? Sometimes you have to give the grip a few taps to get it to seat all the way onto the gun...Without total seating, the screw might not be long-enough to contact the threads.

Hello all,

Thanks for all the great advise, I called Ruger and they are sending me replacements for the screw and U-shaped part, a couple sets I believe, I will be more careful when putting it back in.

Thanks everyone,
