Welcome to the Forum. Yep ~ there are other parts you'll need. A "Search" of this section will turn up other threads about it.

Here's a Classified ad from this forum offering what you need ~ unless it's already sold.

And if these are gone, put a Want To Buy ad in the classifieds here and a set will show up pretty quickly.

This and the grip panel locator on the same page, and a take down pin.

First, you need to decide if you are getting the full size old grips or the compact old style. Most fixed sight guns came with compacts and most adjustible sight guns had the larger ones. My personal opinion is that the 3" barrels look better with compacts and 4" or longer look better with the full size. You don't need a spacer. You need the rubber grip and some insert panels. The original ones had seperate screw and ferrules. The more recent panels have the ferrules built in and all you need is a screw that goes thru the grip sideways and holds them. My Altamonts came with the screw, and I think most ShopRuger.com panels will come with the screw as I suspect Altamont makes them. You need a locator pin no matter what size you get. If you get stuck, post again. I have all the part numbers somewhere.

here is a pic of a 4" barrel with the COMPACT grips, and fake Altamont ivory inserts. This is the size Ruger used in the old days on fixed sight guns. I decided they were a bit too small and switched over to full size with rosewood inserts.

wolfee i was planning on getting an altamont grip do they sell both compact and full size? i want full size. i was gona order all the small parts at midway and get the grip from altamont. thanks.

Altamont makes both sizes of panels. But the small panels are only shown with the SP. They only show the large rubber grip for the GP at their website. And, they have some additional checkering on them on the back. I have always bought the main rubber part from whoever I was buying the hardware from. Midway, Brownells or Ruger. I am 99% certain ALL panels have the ferrules pre installed and Altamont provides the screw, so all you should need is the "grip panel locator" (part no. T03301). I don't know if Altamont stocks that. Midway etc do as well as Ruger. The parts companies always ship so fast I usually go their instead of Ruger. Just make sure they show it as a genuine Ruger part. btw, you might want to check this out. Looks like a good deal to me:

No need to ask him, it IS full size. This is the factory installed grip/panels on the "Wiley Clapp" special edition. Looks like someone bought one and wanted to upgrade even further so they have the grips as surplus. Here is the link to the gun:

You might have to click again on the stainless one.
