GP100 Front Sight

Well I finally got a GP100 that the barrel is screwed in straight. AND it is a half lug gun. AND it shoots good.
BUT shooting in cloudy conditions today made it hard to see the front sight on the target. It has the replaceable front sight. You push in a pin on the front of the barrel.

1.Is there a red ramp or yellow or whatever color ramp front sight That I can replace it with?

2. Does any one have one they don't want? Anything has to be better than just plain black. Just point me in the right direction.

Give me your address and I'll send you one. These will be out a of a Super Redhawk so there might be a slight height difference but the adjustable rear should make up the difference.

I just put an XS sight kit in my GP100 and WOW what a difference in sight aquisition. BUT it not exactly the precision sight like the factory notch and post style.

I have 2 available with the red insert. One is shorter than the standard GP100 sight and a little wider than the rib along the barrel. The other is a good bit taller than the standard and a lot wider than the rib along the barrel. The width shouldn't be a concern since you can fit that (file it down) and then cold blue it to turn it dark again.

I just found another. These must be OLD! Solid red plastic, blade height is .316" tall and the base width which matches the GP100 factory sight is .442"

You could do like a lot of us do and go find some testors modeling paint. They offer some great colors in it for visibility. You take a cotton ball and alcahol and clean the blade with it to remove oil. Then you take a toothpick and dip about 1/8inch of the tip in your paint then apply paint to the sight blade and it fills the grooves in the sight and works great. The sights I paint will last for several years then I take a stainless steel brush and remove the old paint and reapply it and it's good for another several years. They offer a wide variety of bright colors that look good on sights bright reds and oranges and a chartruse green's and bright yellows whatever you prefer. I have several different colors and a little bottle will last for years. The last I bought was about .50cents a bottle it should be available at any craft store.

At one time Millett offered a blaze orange front sight that is a lot brighter than most with a insert. A gunsmith could also cut a dovetail in the existing sight and make an insert in a number of colors.

I put a little Harley birch white paint on the top of the ramp and it works great

I ordered two from Ruger, one installed now & one spare.
The red shows nicely against the white outline rear on the latest GP I acquired.
I have to have contrasts now, black on black doesn't work well anymore.
