Just picked up the SP101. I have both barrel lengths of the Super Redhawk in 454 so now just keeping an eye out for the SRH target grey in 44mag and 480 to complete the Target grey revolver collection.

One of the big distributors ordered a batch of them. I forget which one but there are only a few distributors that can order enough Rugers that they can have an exclusive variation. Most likely one of the knowledgeable members here will post which one.
P.S. A quick search found Davidsons sold an exclusive run of stainless colored 5" GP 100s. In that color they can't be too scarce. One has sat in a not too far away Fred Meyer's for about a year. Tom thought is Target Grey 5" was a scarce gun. You could ask Davidson's if they sold them.

I don't know a lot about the target grey. Is it scratch resistant? What is it exactly? I don't see very many of them around here. Well actually I don't ever remember seeing one in person.

Theres a 4" GP listed in the classified right now. As far as I know there was only a 4" GP (1017 made) and the 2 1/4 barrel length SP101(1268 made) in the Target Grey finish. These were Lipseys exclusive. The Super Redhawk was offered in three calibers and two barrel lengths in this finish also direct from Ruger.

Target Grey is not scratch resistant like Armoly's thin very hard satin chrome finish. Ive seen a couple of Target Grey revolvers that had the holster wear pattern typical on blued service revolvers. I doubt very many of the big, heavy SRHs see enough holster time to acquire that much wear. Mine sure have not.
Some place, maybe in Max P's book, I read that Target Grey was just a phase in the manufacturing process and it just gets polished off the revolvers that are not sold with it. I won't be surprised if that is wrong but I wanted to throw it out for comments. Hopefully Galaxiedan can add to what little I know.

My Target Grey GP-100 looks exactly like the photo in the link. Dunno about any other grips or metal finishes on specific parts.

I think it was a cost thing but I don't know for sure. The REM finish was a chemical process / polishing.
1996 was the high point. Ruger put it on some of the P-series pistols too. After that it was limited to some rifle (I forget which one) and the Super Redhawk. The GP and SP were distributor specials is my understanding.
It is so easy to clean after a range trip but it can scratch. Maybe someday I'll luck into a deal.

They are so pretty. I have a few in my humble collection. My fav is a KP94DC (40 cal) with REM finish (Target Grey)

I have only ever seen two and my divorce stopped the one transaction and the other the guy wouldn't come down to a reasonable price. I don't think he ever sold it.

Thanks, I'll try to search those model numbers. My truck gun is a P90 and i get good comments anytime I let friends shoot it.
