GP-100 trigger spring question

Hey guys. Which spring returns the trigger after firing in the GP-100? Is it the same spring which locks the trigger guard into the frame? The trigger on mine occasionally doesn't reset all the way. How does one go about replacing it, whichever spring it is?

That`s the 1 , ya push the latch back a bit & slide the latch retaining pin out , next is the spring but the trigger link plunger may come out with it but no biggie , just make sure it`s seated correctly to the trigger link when reassembled .

While ya got it down this far ya may want to take a 13/64 drill bit & clean up the spring well , I use the shank & some lapping compound to do this , just go slow with a C/D & clean throughly when finished!

Also check the trigger plunger & cyl latch for excessive ruffness , polish but don`t change angles or remove excess metal !!

Your are correct in that the trigger return spring is the same spring that holds the grip frame in place. But replacing the spring may or may not fix it. A couple of other possibilities come to mind.

It may be a burr in the "tunnel" that the spring "works" in. This would cause the spring to hang from time-to-time. Fix is to gently polish out that tunnel.

Another thought that come to mind is roughness in the other internal parts involved in trigger reset. Specifically the trigger plunger - the trigger plunger is a stamped part, typically with sharp edges on one side. The nose (looks like ½ an arrowhead) activates the cylinder latch. If it isn’t perfectly smooth, the trigger doesn’t want to reset when released. Fix would be to polish the trigger plunger.

I am sure others will be along with more discussion and possibilities.

I did this to mine and it did wonders for the trigger reset. It was really sticky for that last 1/4" of return, and when I put a slightly heavier spring in it stuck every time. There were several rough spots along it. Polished it up and all good now.
