Just cleaned my GP100 after a range day and noticed the rear sight blade appears to have a hazy outline of what used to be a clear outline. I am guessing it was white once upon a time but I am not sure.

I have been doing a great deal of holster carry and fast action shooting for a few months and it appears I am only focusing on the front sight because I never noticed this before.

Question: What is on that rear blade coming from the factory?

I guess it doesn't matter, I can paint it whatever I want, but I would like to start with whatever Ruger thought was a good idea from the factory.

Nothing is on the rear blades from factory. Bluing/black, plus a white outline on some/most sight blades, but no clear coat of any kind.

Thanks, that's what it looks like, like there used to be a thin white outline.

I have touched up the white outline up on some of my rear sights. The way I did it was to remove the sight blade and clean it. Then I put a little white Testors paint in the groove and let it dry for a short while. I then rubbed the sight over a piece of cardboard that had some paint thinner on it to remove any paint that got outside the grooves. Works well. :D

Thanks Hawkeye. Would you happen to know how to remove the rear sight blade on a GP100?

Yeah it is easy. If I remember. Use the thumb nail on your left hand to push down in the notch, then unscrew the windage adjustment screw and remove the screw and let the blade slide up and out. The spring may also come out.

The more dificult part is getting the blade back in. You put the spring in and then stick a tiny screw driver or simular tool in the side to compress the spring and then slide the blade down and in. Then holding the blade you put the adjusting screw back in. :D
