GP-100 Info.

Do the new gp-100 revolvers have MIM parts? Have they changed the way they manufacture them or are they the same as the older ones?

I`m sure there are somw MIM parts & stamped parts .

The only change of late is the pinless ejector, it looks as to be a squared off X to hold the cyl .

The 7 shot 327 & the 4" barrels are now 4.2"

I thought Ruger only used cast and machined parts, at least that is what they are famous for. :shock:

But not forged.

Just kidding. Apparently it's a huge cost savings technique for manufacturers, because a lot of them are using it. There is a big debate "out there" on the quality or lack thereof in MIM parts. Moreover, many people don't like it when solid steel parts are changed out in a design and replaced with MIM. Many people can't get past the idea of "pot metal", which MIM is not.

I have to admit I'm in the camp that doesn't like it, myself, but I've never had an MIM part fail. Sig uses MIM triggers and hammers in their P series guns, Colt uses MIM fire control components in their 1911s, and companies like Kimber and Springfield load up their 1911s with lots of MIM parts.

I've never heard of it being used in a Ruger, who has always used cast steel parts, rather than the forged parts used in some higher priced guns.
