GP 100 grip question

I recently purchased a new GP 100 in stainless with the 6 inch barrel. Prior to purchasing the gun I planned to replace the aesthetically unappealing (at least in my opinion) Hogue grips with the aesthetically appealing (at least in my opinion) older rubber grips with the wood inserts. After receiving and shooting the gun my decsion was reinforced as the grooves in the Hogue grips don't fit my hand well. I just ordered the alternate grips. Are there any tips or traps regarding switching the grips?

No traps or tricks, just make sure your new set includes the grip placement pin. The one that comes with the Hogue's will not work.

You will need the rubber grip, wood panels with ferrules in place, a grip screw as well as the grip locator pin/dowel.

I really like the Hogues. They fit my hand perfectly and really soak up the recoil. They're not the prettiest, I'll agree, though.

Just curious as where you ordered your grips from?

As long as with your grips you get the full size grip screw, and get a full size locator pin, you should be set.

Just an FYI for anyone else, Ruger sells two styles of "orginal" grips:

Not sure if Ruger sends it with the grip screw or locator pin though.

You'll need one of each.

Of course, there are plenty of sellers that offer fancy hardwood, ivory, or pearl grip inserts, so you can customize your GP100 as you wish.

Thanks so much for the info. I bought the grips from Brownells and they cited the manufacturer as Ruger so I'm trusting that the grips are real Ruger grips. I'll make sure I have a full size grip screw and locator pin before proceeding to removing the stock grips.

Do you have the new grips on, are they a little smaller. How does the grip feel. I thinking about changing mine I don't have real large hands and heard these grips are smaller.

According to Brownells, they shipped today. I'll post a report when I get them installed.

Thanks for the advice - new grips are installed. In addition to looking a whole lot nicer, they fit my hands (which are on the small side) much better. My plan is to put them to the real test this Saturday.

I have used both and I think the original grips feel a little fatter.
The Hogue rubber grip is a little thinner and you can sand down the Hogue grip to make it even smaller.

Shot my GP100 with the new - old style grips today. I put 24 38 Special and 24 357 Magnum rounds through it and really like the wood/rubber grips. They fit my small hands so much better than the Hogue grips that came with the gun, and in my opinion look a whole lot better. I'm glad I made the switch.
