I am thinking of getting a GP-100, not to crazy about the Hogue grips, can I swap them out for the old style GP-100 grips?
Thank You in Advance

The original Ruger gp-100 factory grips with the wood inserts are getting harder and harder to find. You might have to go to an auction site as I don't find any available from the usual retailers.

Numrich does have the rubber part and inserts sold separately. You would also need a grip locator pin.

You should also know that there are two sizes of the oringinal GP grips. The small size takes the same inserts as the SP101. Ed

Altamont has a nice variety of grips and inserts-

If you want to match the factory production, the short grip came on fixed sight models and the long grip on adjustible sight models. I got a 4" fixed sight gun but switch back and forth depending on my mood. I never will figure out witch I like best. They both look/feel great. btw, I agree the Hogues are ugly but if you shoot heavy loads they are the cushiest. The Ruger rubber is pretty hard. No problem with 38's but a box of heavy 357's will start to show you just how hard.

They sure do! Reasonable pricing too. Ed

My question is. How long will the factory grips last? They are just rubber, eventually they will either get powdery and fall apart, or get gooey and fall apart. Sun seems to be the biggest enemy to rubber so they should last longer than tires do, but they have a definite life span. Ed

Dunno, but the stuff seems to be a synthetic and it is TOUGH. I have seen a lot of very old GP's with original rubber and the grips were usually still the best looking part of the gun.

The last GP I purchased new I swapped out the Hogue grips for a set of original GP grips I had already pre-purchased in the car in the gun store parking lot. Guess you can say I'm not a fan of the newer Hogue grips on the GP either. As others have mentioned you can buy them on line including in like-new condition on Ebay more often than not.

Thanks to all of you for the info, I guess my next task is to find some grips for the new GP-100 in my future.
