Gone fishin'

Had a good morning today.
Not huge, but a good eater.
For all of you not on the west coast......that thar is a Halibut

Im not much of a fisherman though. Im good for an hour, hour and a half tops, then its time for a boat ride...

The few times I've had the opportunity to eat any it was quite good. But we don't have them anywhere near me,,,so,,,,,

I only say that because I've watched clips of folks clubbing them to avoid getting smacked by them in the boat......I've caught a ton of flounder in my day......they give up pretty easy

Gaff hook and dragged it up over the side of the boat, then all hell broke loose!!

Not huge, OK. But a good-sized fish. Can't remember have Halibut. Is it white like Mahi Mahi m or dark meat like Tuna?

A white dense flesh, like sturgeon, or marlin, but very mild. Tastes like whatever you cook it with/in. I prefer Ling Cod or Rockfish, more flakey and moist, but since Halibut is $30 a pound in the store.....
Everybody loves me when I give it away!!
And fishermen are always looking for folks to take fish.

Too darned much work! I'd rather catch barracuda all day long and throw them back. Pure fun and no fish to clean. Honestly for pure eating we have these little Sand Dabs on the sandy bottoms just off shore. They are just as tasty as can be sauteed in nothing but butter and a bit of garlic. And again, not a lot of work.

That’s a good eating fish. And you caught just about the perfect size for a couple of good fillets. We get the smaller ones out of the gulf and they’re just as good as those in the colder water.
They’re actually a pretty good fighting fish when you get them where they can see sunlight. Congratulations on great catch.

Catching one of those is on my bucket list.
I’ve had it before and love it, I’m not much into the fishy (oily) fish and prefer the milder firm fish like that.

Very nice I have been trying to decide on one last big hunt or a Halibut trip being here on the east coast I would love to catch a Atlantic Halibut but they are far and few between I have a good friend in northern Maine that works on a longliner and they get a few every year most are 80-100 lbs I have been catching Stripers up to 25 lbs for a couple months now next saturday sea bass opens so I will have to settle for them for now

Thats a great fish @JAYDAWG!
With salmon closed down (again) in the San Francisco area, halibut have become the target species for many charter boats and recreational fisherman. The salad days of the odd 20 lb plus "barn doors" are merely a memory and the goal now is to catch a legal fish (or two) on a good day.
Congratulations and grill one up for me in butter and garlic! Yumm

That is a nice catch! I believe I have had halibut a time or so. I have never been as much for fish or seafoods.
