Going under the knife Update: I'm Benign

I was hoping I'd make it out of this life with everything I was born with (except teeth and hair). But I guess not. I'll be loosing a saliva gland and one or more parathyroid glands in about 10 days. Doc thinks they're benign tumors, but won't know for sure till he gets them out and sent to the lab. Over night stay. Will have a drain bag on the side of my neck for a few days. Bland diet. Sleep in the recliner, etc. :groan:

Worst part is I have to shave my 37 y/o beard off before the surgery. I'm thinking I can get away with keeping a 'stache and goatee tho. :wink:

When my thyroid was removed almost 20 years ago, my parathyroid glands were permanently paralyzed, and I was placed on a daily dose of 1000MG Calcium.

The parathyroid glands control your body's need for calcium, so (provided the biopsy comes back OK) you'll most likely also be placed on a daily regimen of calcium.

Well, at least you won’t scare off the deer with your sasquatch beard. Hope you get some pretty nurses to help the immediate recovery go more comfortably.

Too much calcium along with good bbq and ice cream led to my cardiac “event” in January, so you are welcome to my surplus. :mrgreen:
