Goat meat

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I've tried goat meat and goat milk. Not fond of either. We've owned goats and those suckers stink. I'm sure I went into it with some preconceived idea… so no goat for me. We're considering getting some goats again to control the poison oak and weeds. I guarantee that would be some foul tasting meat- not that I'll ever find out.

I've actually been one quite accustomed to the taste of oat milk. Yes, oat milk. I actually prefer it to cow milk now.
How do you milk an oat? I like milk in my oats, but.......
Sorry, man. I just couldn't pass it up!

I didn't KNOW you could MILK OATS !!!

The only time I ever had goat was at a Mosque in California. It was during Ramadan and it was served as the evening meal after the fast.
It tasted fine, served as a stew, bones and all.
My only concern was if the goat was still a virgin or not.

I don't know how they do it- but it tastes good and supposedly is better for you than moo juice.

I've had it, as mentioned before, in Mexico on an assignment prepared by locals in a tortilla with lots of veggies. Very good.

I have worked with others who liked it that way, but not as a steak, etc.

I would like to try that some day just to see the difference, but I would eat the burritos all the time if I could. Excellent.

Just don't drink the water……. Or ice made from the water. If no refrigerator available it was hot Pepsi or beer.

If that's true, the goat was sick or had been fed poorly. I used to drive 8 miles out of my way to get fresh goat milk in Mendocino County.

I was introduced to birria (braised goat) at a restaurant in Arbuckle, CA. I asked if they had fajitas; they did not, but "if you like fajitas, you'll really like our birria". They weren't lying, it was stupendous!
It's the chef and the ingredients that makes a dish... not just the ingredients.
But I'm a sucker for Mexican / Spanish / Portuguese cuisine anyway...
OK so I will qualify that: goat milk is disgusting to me. Does that make you feel better? ;)

They make some great goat meat in Hialeah near Miami.

There's also nearly as many blondes there as in Sweden :)

We raised goats when I was a kid. No more than 3 goats at a time. Little sister was allergic to cows milk for the 1st couple years of her life so goat milk it was. She out grew the condition at age 3 so went back to cows milk for her. She was to little to remember.
So my Dad gave the goats milk away to other families that could not drink cows milk.
Few gallons a week. We would kill a nanny goat every year and eat it. About 100 pounder. Tasted very much like Deer. Had more fat / marbling on the steaks then a deer. I thought it was very good. I could not tell the difference between a nice Doe deer and a nice Nubian goat. They even looked a like. Brown with big ears. Ha ha. The good old days. MD

I would have to take a truckload of bottled water and a trailer of ground coffee. Have to have my coffee!

Thankfully my time there was a border crossing every day so breakfast was stateside as was dinner. A couple soft drinks and a sandwich purchased stateside went with me every day. One of our guys picked up a parasite or bacterium (don't remember which for sure) from one single use of ice for a soft drink and it literally took him 2.5 years to get rid of it. Multiple doctors could not get it done until finally he found an endocrinologist somewhere in the Northeast, who put him through a process that got him back to normal. He lost weight and looked terrible the whole time. I remember the man actually celebrated his first solid bowel movement in 30 months when it came.

THAT.. is a sad party to throw. There may have been part favors, but nobody came. 😳

I helped lead a Vacation Bible School and we decided that we would have a goat cooked for the closing picnic. We did not tell anyone what the meat was going to be/was. It was pit cooked by a group of Mexicans for us. The only thing I thought was if was greasy. May have been that it was wrapped up in wet burlap so that most of the fat stayed in the meat, or got taken and bought a fatty goat. My wife and I got the remaining meat and would heat it in a steamer over boiling water which allowed the fat to drain. That was much better tasting meat over all.

Gee, all we had were Jimmy Johns

I lived in Chile for many years. I love goat, lamb, alpaca, llama, etc. It all eatA guy in our church was an engineer in Brazil. One morning at breakfast he was talking to the table about eating manatee in the jungle. Said beautifully marbled steaks. as he spoke the reaction from the people at nearby tables was very humorous.
